If you avoid February half term (pretty much the last 2-3 weeks of Feb) you might have more luck. Also, each ski area has a website, so for example if you Google 'ski Mayrhofen' you'll find it. The website will give lists of accommodation. Try ringing or emailing hotels direct. There ought to be places that don't sell out to tour operators and might be more flexible.

I think he's fairly unusual - but so useful to have in a crisis -) Good luck with your search. Sounds like you had a pretty horrid time. |

You think this person was a tourist? From the information you give, she doesn't sound like the average tourist. I don't know anyone who skis with medical gloves in their pocket on the off chance they'll need to help at an accident. Also, why would they bother taking notes, or your name and address? This person sounds like more than just a random tourist. |

I found this old article in the Guardian about youth hostels in ski resorts. Although it was written 7 years ago it might give you some ideas as a starting point. At the end of the article is a link to ski club GB which might have more current information.
As OldAndy says, February is high season and very busy because every European country has school holidays in February. |

Hi Admin. Have the interweb pixies been messing with your site? When I read a topic on the forum and return later, the topic still shows up in green i.e. as unread, even if there haven't been any new replies posted. This means I keep going back to the thread thinking someone has posted a new reply, only to find it is as I left it from previously. It's confusing my poor wee head -) which isn't at all difficult

What a sad and terrible waste of taxpayers' money. What annoys me most is government's refusal to apply common sense and accept that not all parents can take holidays at the same time, not by their own choice but by restrictions placed by employers. I know people who have to book their leave a year in advance to guarantee they both get time off in school holidays. The only 'winners' in this battle are the high-priced lawyers and barristers who are no doubt laughing all the way to the bank.
