Ski waxing question ...
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 4 Replies
Hi. I got some cute little rub-on wax blocks that you can put in your pocket. They come in different colours for different types of snow conditions. I got them off ebay. I will tell you the name of them another day, because they are out in the garage and I've just spent the day full on skiing at glenshee and can barely walk. (I'm one of the idiots who said getting fit for ski season makes a difference).
Where's the best skiing in Scotland?

Another concern is my mate is a begginer on the board and has never used tows... worried there wont be enough green runs and chairs for him!

I was up yesterday. The roads were fast and clear. I've done alot of days up there this year and I can't think of any days when at least one chairlift wasn't running for a fair part of the day. The sunny side chairlift drops you off at a nice easy run for a novice boarder. There is plenty of good powder on most runs and it shouldn't be too busy during the week. Tell your mate to just have a go at the tows. No shame in falling off. Just keep trying until he can do it. Have a good day tomorrow.

I try to get fit for the season. Mainly because it compensates for my rubbish technique. Boxing best for cardio, bike best for legs.

I saw some there as well, but only for kids. You were lucky to get an adults one. I should think they must all comply to the same safety standards - does it have some sort of kite mark on it?

Mine says it meets standard pr EN 1077 - Class B /ASTM F2040, whatever that means. As long as yours fits okay and meets the standard I should think it will be fine - it doesn't matter what it looks like. Mine is a Salomon Kiana with ear muffs and cost me £40 in a ski shop.

It fits well and I prefer it to my wooly hat. It's got a few fancy numbers on it which means it's got to be good :-). It was hidden in with some kind of motorbike/scooter helmets so I was lucky to get it. I'm sure you can get cheaper 2nd hand ones on ebay.

C'mon man, where's your sense of adventure! -)

It's just worrying when a ski actually looks dangerous. :-)

I grew up in NZ. I remember when I was a kid skiing at a great little field called Ohau. It's in the central South Island (mckenzie country). Small but beautiful. Try it if you ever get down that way.

How did you manage 7 years on blades !!! You've been missing out on a lot my friend, i.e POWDER !

The blades come up the mountain with me each week but sit in the boot of the car. Not sure I can let go of them yet.
