Verglas,
These are the (edited) instructions Pablo gave me when I was stuck trying to put up a utube video (I printed them out so I wouldn't forget!).

Copy the link from the address bar at the top of the Youtube page
Go to reply on the thread you want to post the video on.
Click the 'youtube' button which is on the bar of options along the top of the page you get when you are typing a message on j2ski.com.
Paste the link in
Click the Youtube button again
Add any comment you want beneath it.
Hit the 'preview' button to make sure it works before you push the 'submit' button next to it.

Caron-a,
We stayed in the hotel Crystal in Obergurgl a few years ago, and they seem to have extended the place considerably. There now seems to be a walkway over the road to the gondola at the entrance to the village from the hotel. There are some nice photos on their website which I thought you might like to see.

That was the worst aspect of the trip the tuition was very poor compared to Poiana, I was stood at the top of a lift one day and two of my children apeared with 4 other friends, I asked where the instructor was and they said they had lost him! We waited a while and set of down together, next day they had a new instructor. (nuff said!)

Verglas,
If you've been reading our posts for a while, you'll know that the same thing happened to me in Val Thorens, with esf. As far as I could see, our instructor deliberately lost people during the day (but at least they weren't children). I think losing children during a lesson is really terrible.

Verglas,
Did your costings include ski lessons? I'm ashamed to admit that lessons are a very large item on our bill. We're all having different sorts of lessons, but it's working out at an average bill of £250 per person for 6 days. My lessons are the most expensive - 330 euros for 6 days, morning and afternoon .

The lift pass is the other killer - 216 euros for 7 days for the Courchevel one.

The accommodation, transfers, and train cost about £600 per person.

I haven't costed out food because I'm not planning on spending much more than we do at home (apart from the fact that I suppose the basic ingredients will cost a bit more in the supermarket). We will be cooking in the apartment.

Borovets is definitely much cheaper than Courchevel. They are at opposite ends of the spectrum. We started with Borovets, and then moved up the scale in both quality and price, once we could afford it.

Verglas,
I should have also said, that our first family ski holiday was to Borovets, 7 years ago. We went there because it was the only place we could afford, at the time. I got a special last minute offer from Airtours for the first week in Jan, and it was only £820 for myself and the 2 children - half board, flights, transfers, ski hire, passes, and lessons! So it cost a lot less for the 3 of us, than we're paying now per person to go to Courchevel (although we are going in Feb half-term).

Unfortunately I never got to ski at Borovets myself, because I'd broken my shoulder practising on the dry ski slope, but I did get to go up the mountain on the chair lift and walk down the pistes, and the kids skied.

I did find quite a few bad things about the resort, but at least it started my younger daughter ski-ing, and we've been to other resorts pretty much every year since then. If Borovets hadn't been so cheap we wouldn't have been able to afford a ski holiday at all, that first year.

Verglas,
Congratulations on being brave enough to write, and submit, your first post :D :D.

I'm glad you enjoyed your holiday to Borovets. How did you get to and from your villa? Did they provide a shuttle bus?

For comparison, 3 of us have booked to go to Courchevel by train during Feb half-term, staying in self-catering accommodation, and it's going to cost around £1100 per person for the train, the transfers, the accommodation, ski passes, ski and boot hire, and ski lessons.

Sorry Snowbandit,
But I was fairly sure you wouldn't mind, or I wouldn't have laughed :D

I have dipped into a few other forums including a couple of other ski forums and a 'tortoise forum'.  I can honestly say that on J2ski I have never seen anything that compares to some of the outrageous or nasty posts elsewhere. Having said that I can see how new members who are not familiar with the different personalities, may be offended easily.

I looked at a tortoise forum once but I found it moved along far too slowly for my liking.
