Went to Kaprun in March 2 years ago. It was great. While the lower slopes in Zell am Zee were really suffering, Kaprun still had wonderful snow  . Decent selection of runs though it might become a little boring after more than a couple of day  . There were two blacks off to the right that were lovely  . If you are up to it, there a few interesting itineries around that would test most skiers  .

A couple of downsides however - lots of drags because it is a moving glacier
Also, you have to take a gondola to the valley.
Sleeps till ski time

Top of the list! Yippee!! .... Though I should point out that St Anton didn't work out! We are now heading to Laax. Very excited now. 3 or 4 weather sites being checked every couple of hours!
I would not be so sure about doing full day private lessons unless you are both pretty physicaLly fit. Learning to ski initially is quite demanding and you will be pushed hard in a private lesson. Group lessons are not as intense.

By the way, do not be put off by this. The learning curve is steep and you will be amazed at your development even over a few days.

Above all, relax and enjoy the experience!

I've never used a lock but friends have had skies stolen (in Flaine). I would usually have no concerns up the mountain but would be careful at base when near a road!

While your lock might be flimsy, it would probably be enough to put off most thieves who will simply go for the next set unlocked!

Glad you were ok . At that speed, it could have been very nasty
Courmayeur Suggestions

Last time I was in Courmayeur, the Vallee Blanche route (with guide) was being heavily touted for good skiers. Might be worth a look if conditions are favourable . Not sure if it is boarder-friendly

Am I missing some sarcasm here or are you really saying that rain improves the slopes?

I would have thought that rain was terrible for the snow  .... and there is lots forecast for lower loevels at Laax over the next week before I get there -though thankfully falling as snow higher up
While checking out St Anton options I came across this crowd.

Their "St Anton" shop is actually in Pettneu but their prices seem extremely low if you book early enough.

Anybody tried them?
