If you're travelling in, or to, Europe this weekend - snow may affect you! 8)
Easter Travel In short, heavy snow is expected in the Northern and Western Alpine regions through most of Friday and probably into Saturday. Temperatures in the area are below average, so snow is likely to fall to the valley floor at times. If you plan to drive down through France, we strongly recommend you monitor the French weather forecasts ( www.meteofrance.com) for all areas on your route and time your travel accordingly. Unusually for Easter, snow chains and / or winter tyres may be necessary to reach many resorts on Friday and Saturday - local police may stop you proceeding without them. Incoming After a brief clear spell (Thursday), snow will be the order of the day for Friday in particular and the weekend in general. Most of the European Alps will see fresh snow, with large falls to the Northern French Alps and Western Switzerland. Further snow is likely during the week, with mixed weather but consistently low temperatures. Cold weather, and further precipitation, look possible through to the end of March at least, giving a great base to the very end of the season. Jolly good, |

Following a few mild days through the weekend, temperatures look set to fall sharply and stay below average for the remainder of the month. Several bands of snow should pass through The Alps over the next week.
Although rain to moderate altitude is possible early in the weekend, snow lines should fall from 1,800 metres to 1,300 and lower by the end of the week. Easter skiing, particularly in central and northern alpine areas, is set to be very good indeed. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) Don't put those skis away! It's not over yet... |

AJ, Mike... you should now be able to load your avatars ok.
8) Blowing a hoolie here in Kent this morning - had to play hunt the dustbin before I could fix AJ's avatar. I hope these winds don't make it the mountains... |

I'm sure nobody round here is thinking "something good came of the downtime then"... But yes, I'm sorry, we did what we could but we didn't manage to save them all... |

We think we're all now tickety-boo, but please let us know if you spot anything on the site that doesn't look quite right.
In case you missed it, we had a bad day, but it's all sweet now. For the Jan-minded; our flashy-lighty big box thing got a bad case of the wibble wobbles and threw a right wiggle. Anyway, we're back now - and both servers are ready and waiting to, er, serve you. And have you seen the snow??? 8) 8) 8) |

Good snowfalls in many areas of the Alps have improved conditions considerably this week, bringing powder skiing back to many ski resorts. Temperatures continue to fall and, after a couple of clear days, this coming weekend will see the arrival of further snow.
Incoming Beginning Sunday, perhaps earlier in some places, snow is expected down to 1,500 metres and possibly lower. Significant accumulations now look highly likely, with the Northern French and Eastern Swiss Alps seeing anywhere up to five days of snow in succession. If you're considering a short break, or even a sneaky week out, the next couple of weeks should be good - and should set things up very nicely for Easter. j2ski Snow Forecasts update every 6 hours The very latest forecast data is always available to you on j2ski, but remember that alpine forecasts more than 48 hours ahead are extremely variable and can change dramatically from one forecast to the next, particularly in the presence of complex weather systems. |

A newbie question - Max Freezing Level?

Tsk tsk... Jan, when the Max Freezing Level goes over your head... it's gonna melt... got that?
Freezing Level is the altitude at which the air temperature will be zero - Min and Max are for the 24-hours, so the Min will usually be sometime during the night and Max sometime during the afternoon. Anyway, never mind about that... there hasn't been a bulge like this in the wiggly lines for months :- Precipitation and Temperature for Geneva Oo err missus, I can feel a short break coming on... |
