I spoke too soon . I got a phone call from the hospital on Sunday asking me to come in for a further review. They had looked more closely at the X-rays and concluded that I have two fractured ribs and small puncture to my lung :!:. I don't know whether to be angry with the hospital for missing the damage first time round or impressed that they conduct a review of all X-rays to make sure everything is alright. In any event, my January ski trip is definitely off   . Hopefully, I will be full recovered in time for the February mid-term trip. I might also have to have a look at a late season long weekend to compensate  |

I didn't ski there but it was strange to see skilifts on the slopes of Mount Etna on Sicily in the middle of Summer when the temperature was in the 30's. It was a bit scary to see one of the lift supports had been taken out be a lava flow the previous year

This is only partly true. One thing I found absolutely fascinating on the Sella Ronda was the difference in feel from the Southern end to the Northern end. The Northern end definitely does feel quite like Austria though I would still think it is sufficiently Italian to feel different. The Southern end is very definitely Italy . If you are based on the South side, you will know you are in Italy which is reflected in the food, drink, style, attitudes, etc 8). The downside is this extends to après-ski, i.e. virtually none  Overall, I found the Sella Ronda to be a fabulous place to ski  |

I got knocked off my bike yesterday by an idiot who suddenly decided to turn left into a carpark without indicating and landed very heavily on my chest:evil:.
The ridiculous thing was one of my first thoughts was "this could ruin my ski trip in January" Just goes to show how obsessed we are  Thankfully, a trip to the ER confirmed that nothing was broken and no sign of any other significant problems. So apart from rather painful internal bruising, I should be fine after a few days . Anyway, hope Mrs H is recovering well and that you will be able to travel Tony. Best wishes for the Christmas season. |

Most unstable snowpack in a decade - 19th December 2013

I know very little about this subject and it is mainly not too important as I don't/can't really do off-piste.
A quick question for the experts: does the fact that the snowpack is currently so unstable mean that it will remain unstable for the rest of the season or will the "stability" level settle down with the right conditions over the next few weeks? |

I am heading to Stuben in February so might think about a trip over this link.
Does it take long to get across? Did you feel it was worth the effort? Apart from the couple of runs you mentioned is the skiing any good on the Warth side? |

I have been watching some of the skiing from the US on Eurosport. Chemmy has been commenting and has been really good - her level of insight is the best I've heard anywhere. She also seems to know all the ski racers and whats going on with them. A great addition. Unfortunately, for us, she is now going off to ski herself and will not be commenting for the foreseeable future. A definite career waiting for her once she is finished skiing competitively if wants it  .
