Tony,
That's exactly what I was thinking, and in fact I had a good look at the Civil Aviation Authority's website just now to see what they said about aeroplane safety standards. They do say if you've had a problem with an aeroplane to write to them. Rose, Maybe you should write and complain. Ally |

Well,
While we're highlighting this issue, what's wrong with what I said here? I was just trying to be nice to GadgetGirl. And I do think that the issue of ski-ing while pregnant is a very important one, worthy in fact of a whole thread on its own. I mean, we discuss the difficulties involved in ski-ing after a fracture, for example, so what's the difference? I admit the bit about our dairy herd was a bit wibbly (which was why I flagged it so people could miss it out if they wanted), but it was only a couple of lines, and I haven't had a ski-ing accident whilst I was pregnant to illustrate my point. If you're reading this, GadgetGirl, I hope you had a great holiday, and you're still needing childcare for next year's ski holiday :D http://www.j2ski.com/ski-chat-forum/posts/list/32/8159.page (Half way down the page) I would be more comfortable myself, if they just got rid of the star system altogether. If anyone disagrees with someone's post, on a technical issue for example, they can simply write a reply themselves politely pointing out where and why they disagree with it. And if someone writes a really offensive post we can complain to Admin about it, who can then remove it. If we think a post is really great - helpful, well written, informative etc. then we can write a reply saying so. Ally |

Pablo, I was really responding to Tony's comments on the snowplough. And I'm very glad to hear that even the professionals sometimes use it in the skiercross. I did a very sneaky snow-plough behind my morning instructor in the boardercross park so that he couldn't see it and tell me off - my nice afternoon instructor didn't mind me doing one at all in there. I had an instructor in Val Thorens last year who wouldn't let us do one in that boardercross park and I hadn't been in it before (neither had he because it was brand new - not even finished in fact) and I shot out of that one at the end like a cork out of a bottle - much too fast - and I didn't want to do that again. Thanks Pablo,
Well, if it's as complicated as all that, I'm glad I didn't have a go at carving in the deep powder. I will have a look at the videos later, thanks very much :D Tony, I don't see what people have against the humble snow-plough. I find it very useful, even now. I use it when I'm trying not to slide into the person in front of me in the lift queue, when I'm going down a very narrow, icy, blue run blocked by masses of people, in the boarder cross park to cut my speed down a bit before going parallel over the jumps, and in fact it does work in powder but only if you use it to turn and then go parallel afterwards (I tried it out myself when the instructor wasn't there to tell me off). I even saw my instructor in a snow-plough while he was talking to another instructor, and I noticed that the pipers in kilts were doing the snow-plough in Scotland the other day. Ally |
