Thanks Salski :D :D
I should be able to get there okay by train with a bus at the end. And 'yes' I'm very good at cleaning, but I'm afraid I'm pretty rubbishy at cooking - just veg stews, rice, pasta etc. But I'm sure I can find a hotel or a chalet somewhere in St Gervais.

Tony,
I rather think whoever the mysterious 'one star monster' is, is probably 'lurking' when they do it, so no-one knows who it is. It is most certainly not me. As I have said on numerous occasions, I don't rate anyone. The only time I ever did it was when we were testing the system, to see if it worked on averages.
According to DaveMac, Admin knows who it is - why don't you ask him?

Yet another reason to wear a helmet

Karen,
I think your kids look great in their decorative helmets :D

I've never tried doing it in a helmet, so I don't know if it's more pleasurable or not

Hi Johntin,
Did you get your 60 euros back? Or a detailed explanation? They've had plenty of time to sort it out now.

Thanks Eggman,
I'd love to go ski-ing with you and Salski :D :D :D

I've got ages to work out how to get there, and where to stay etc. And, hopefully, by that time I'll be a much better skier. I have been thinking about ski-ing in the Megeve area for a long time, now. One of my friends skied at Praz-sur-Arly on the Espace Diamant pass, and it did sound very nice, and it seems to be in the same part of the country.

Well,
I can certainly agree with that one, Pablo, I'm quite happy to increase my ski-ing to 3 x per year. That would be great :D

It might actually be possible as well, because once my younger daughter leaves school I'll be able to go ski-ing at the cheaper times of year. We don't usually have many holidaymakers from the New Year until Easter (which is why I've got time to type this - although we do have two lots coming tomorrow and Saturday).

Rose,
Thanks for telling me - private lessons seem to be quite a popular choice with other J2skiers as well.

Tony,
I actually enjoy having group lessons. I like the social aspect of meeting new people, and I like the challenge of the lessons. And I really had a great time in my one-off slalom lesson.

I also like the fact that now I know I can get down pretty much any piste as long as it's not something dreadful like the one Innsbrucker was showing us, or the Grand Couloir in Courchevel.

And, Tony, I know you're only joking, but my poor instructor was definitely not drunk. He wasn't the best instructor I've ever had, but he did have quite a difficult group to deal with because we were all supposed to be in different groups, and I do really think he was doing his best. And the other people in my group were great. One was a surgeon, one was the sports manager for Chris Hoy, and two of the French teenagers were really charming.

And, as I've said before, my afternoon lessons were really great. The instructor was quite brilliant and I learned a great deal, and there were only 3 other people in the group and we all got on really well.

I would very much like some more ski lessons in slalom, moguls, off-piste, and carving. I have a great deal to learn :D

They did on ours, on the last day of lessons, to get prizes. Funnily enough I could'nt attend that day.

That sounds like fun, Rose :D
It's a shame you had to miss it.

Did you ever get any other slalom lessons?

Ally
I don't know Pablo, it was fun! They give the kids slalom lessons pretty much from the beginning. As I said before, the last time I had a slalom lesson was when I was eleven, going down between poles, in a snow-plough in Austria.

I agree that an easier course would have been a better idea - but I think my instructor just fancied having a go in there. And it was quite exciting. I mean, I did actually ski in the World Cup slalom course, even if I was going very slowly. And it didn't do me, or the course, any harm.

It would have been much better if we'd had all week to learn the basics of how to slalom first, but it just didn't turn out that way.

Plus, we were in the top class. There wasn't another higher class. And the class below us would have been too easy, and we did all get tested to make sure we were good enough for it. So, even if I'd wanted more lessons on basic ski-ing first there weren't any at my level. I think most people give up on lessons after they get to Upper Intermediate.

And, I think I was the worst in my group. One of the others was really good, and he did a great job of going down the slalom in real style and pretty fast (but no video, sorry). My daughter is also a much better skier than me. So, looking at me ski-ing it doesn't really give you a fair idea of the group as a whole.

Thanks PrivateBryan :D
I knew I was taking a risk putting it up on here, but I thought it would be worth it because some people would appreciate it. We can't all be brilliant skiers, and I think it's good to show what it's like trying to learn a new skill within ski-ing. Hopefully, I will improve.

You are quite right about the ruts. My daughter came down last, or maybe second last, out of the 8 of us, and she said it was badly rutted up by then and she had to ski very carefully.

How much slalom ski-ing have you done?
