Thanks for the info Biki. Can I ask you:
1. Do you think the Marmolada might be worthwhile on a fine day? It does seem like quite a palaver to get up to the top and then effectively one long run back down . 2. Did it take you long to get over to the Hidden Valley? It seems like a very long way looking at the piste map, especially as I would have kids with me - able to manage the skiing all right but the stamina might be an issue on a very long day . 3. I take it you did the Black down from Buffaure to Alba. How difficult would you rate it? The Baita Checco restaurant is doing a sunrise special on Feb 15th. Cablecar up at 6.45, breakfast in the restaurant and then 1st tracks back down before the cablecar opens for normal business. It sound good so I might be tempted despite the very early start:shock:. http://www.baitachecco.com/en/trentinoskisunrise/ |

Bear in mind that in Ischgl, virtually all the skiing is done higher up. Most people only hit the lower slopes when heading home at the end of the day. So if the lower slopes are not in good shape you can always take the lift down. A lot of people do anyway because the home runs are pretty steep and can be a bit chaotic during the mid-afternoon rush hour .
On the other hand, most people overlook them earlier in the day when they can be deserted and perfectly groomed so often worth a look . A good idea is to head over the Swiss side in the morning as it is South facing and is usually in lovely condition early, though often somewhat too soft in the afternoon and then make your way back to the (North facing)village side later on when the slopes have softened just enough to make for great skiing . Its a great ski area and an extremely lively après town as well . Don't worry, you will enjoy yourself . |

I think the Dolomites would really tick all your boxes. The scenery is without doubt, the best I have seen anywhere in the alps, the food and drink is excellent and the skiing is really extensive and perfect for an intermediate level skier but with good options for more testing runs if you need to challenge yourself occasionally.
Good bases would include Campitello, Canazei,Val Gardena or any of the villages directly on the Sella Ronda really . Prices are generally lower than any of the other mega resorts in France or Austria. Good luck and please let us know how you got on whenever you do make the trip  |

This really is a truly amazing achievement, especially considering that she was out of action for around a year following that horrible accident. To come back from that injury as good, if not better, than before was remarkable. A great athlete

Come on Ranchero, give the poor girl a chance to catch her breath . I'm sure she will be ready to unveil her plans by the end of the week . Seriously, well done Ally on another successful trip. As the usual organizer for my family and a few friends, I have some sense of what's involved but given the scale of the operation, the diverse people and travel plans, etc, I know that you will have put in a very considerable effort to make the trip work for everybody . |

I would definitely opt for the Galzig end.
It is much more central for everything. The main bus terminal is there so handy for buses (for example to get to Lech which is worth doing for at least 1 day). You also have a choice of lifts to different ski areas out of Galzig in the morning - Galzig, Gampen and Rendl while the home run is probably a little bit easier than the one down to Nassarein. Neither is particularly easy if you are heading home during the main evening rush . Better to get down early or else leave it as late as possible  |

I am heading to Dolomites next month and staying in Vigo di Fassa. I am keen on checking out the Marmolada glacier. Does anybody have any views on whether it is worth the effort? It seems to involve a fair few lifts.
Also, some of the group are keen on Armentorola piste - this is the long piste that you need to take a taxi part of the way up and get dragged along by horses on the return journey  . It seems a very long way from Campitello. Anybody made the journey? I don't particularly want to be under too much time pressure. How long should it take to get over? We would all be reasonable good intermediates. |

Up 30% against Euro at the moment! It was already expensive but is not going to be prohibitive if these exchange rates hold
Not nice for anybody already booked  |
