On account of being way too stylish, I'm afraid I won't be able to enter (toungue firmly in cheek.)Expect a similar post from TonyH!!

However, I am going to ask my father to model a particularly nasty green/purple/black 2 piece effort purchased in Zell am See many moons ago...

Please don't let one bad experience from a seemingly thoughtless instructor put you off many years of potential enjoyment!

A couple who holidayed with TonyH and I in Sauze this year had a similar experience before we went. They paid a significant amount of money for a days lesson, where from what I can gather they learnt almost nothing of use nor relevance.

The idea of private family lessons sounds a good one - you'll spread the cost, be together as a family and learn as a family whilst having loads of fun laughing at one another and celebrating your progress.

Try to find a resort with a reputable ski school (there are many) and don't worry about being pushed too far too quickly - its not in any instructor's best interests to do so.

BUT, if you feel uncomfortable at any time tell him or her and ask to be shown again or if you can repeat the previous bit, which you were happy with.

Also, one gripe of mine is that people these days seem not to want to have the necessary amount of lessons. Yes, I know they can be pricey, but they are worth it if you are in any way serious about our wonderful sport.

Go for it and have fun, because thats what its all about...
Ischgl or Solden??

Cajun Dance Party, Tony, not Club. )

On thread, I hve heard that Solden too is a bit on the rowdy side (although not as bad as it was a few years back) and the mid to upper slopes can be very windy, cold and exposed. However, the season there is long and pretty snow sure, so taking the rough with the smooth...

I "only" paid for the jacket, hat and mittens...

The video gets more amusing every time I look at it - not least because of the mewing noise the director/cameraman makes at the end

No wonder she doesn't like to go skiing with Skidaddle.

Nice outfit though, don't you think?

Mayrhofen Ski School

When I learned in Mayrhofen, the Spiess Skischool was the only one and was widely regarded as the best there was.Anywhere. Unfortunately it is no longer there.

There are now four to choose from - SMT, Die Roten Profis, Mayrhofen 3000 and Skischool Mt. Everest (Peter Habeler.)

The only one I have experience of is SMT (Schiscule Mayrhofen Tirol)My partner, a very nervous skier, has had lessons from 3 of their instructors and found them all to be very good indeed - patient, thorough and humorous.

A couple of years ago I had a 2 hour private lesson with one of them (Marcus) and it was fantastic - I had to ski really hard and it was loads of fun as well.

SMT is run by a guy called Max who was formerly employed by Spiess and of the older instructors who are still around, most of them work for SMT too.

I don't think you could go wrong by choosing them, but check out whether they have classes on the recently expanded Ahorn area first, where the skiing may suit your wife a little better.

Feel free to pm me if you want to.

Which Race (ish) skis?

Your comments on Fischers SL World Cup are right on! Just finished testing 5 racing SL skis!
Those Fischers and great! I had two pair; the SL World Cups available from ski shops on special oredr and the very new SL with hole at tip!!!
Never buy the hole versions! Only good for real,,,, I mean very real world class racers!!!
I predict that Fischer in the next 5 years will dominate elite racing since its skis are truly great! ( and this coming from a Atomic skier).
The GS true World Cup skis are also far above others! I could not get "up to speed" to truly get the performance level they were designed for,, so I was allowed to ski down one run ONCE (dammmmm) before skiers were allowed on slopes! The two ski patrollers could not keep up! At end of trial test,,,, they demanded that they also try them! Then I had to try to keep up with them with my Rossignol GS world Cups! Sorry Rossi,,,,just a small level under the performace quality of the Fischers!

You can not beat buying Fischer SL at 165!

Now the question is, "are you skier enough to tame them?"

Thats all very well, but this Tom is almost identical in height to me and I weigh a couple of pounds more.

My reservations about Fischer is that everyone claims they are heavy and much more suited to heavier guys.

If someone could prove me wrong I'd love it because they look the monkey's nuts.

Otherwise I will stick with Atomic and go for the SL12s - probably the 2007/2008 model.

(I will of course be trying both before I buy.)
