Bummer news but you're going to need that knee for a long time yet mate so take any advice given and don't rush it

Had a mate who had similar and he was back playing 5-a-side 5 months later. He asked about skiing and was told that it was no worse than anything else but that it was daft things like being caught at a funny angle by a chair lift etc that could do the damage.

Write off this year and come back strong next (maybe via an appearance on Dancing on Ice as I understand that's what all the cool ski kids are doing post injury this year)!

Isn't he the same doctor who defended Madeley on his shoplifting charge years ago and said it was explained by his mental state? - I'd trust his medical opinion on anything mate -)

We went there the week we were all at the Marsala, I ate so much cheese that night I had a MASSIVE horribly scary nightmare. Still love cheese though :)

You and Mr PS in lots of cheese shock - surely not Nelly!!!!!

Hope you had bread.....

verbier_ski_bum wrote:Well you might have to pass up on ski hosting then and explore resorts yourself (this is what many people do anyway). If the law becomes more tight I doubt operators will continue doing it the old way - there are ways to enforce rules and stricter rules will be enforced. I have seen people being guided by ski school instructors and they didn't look particularly unhappy about it or dissatisfied. And I think majority of visitors won't even notice the change or bother about it too much. In any case "local ski instructor" is a vague concept as instructors come from many parts of Europe and they speak English too.

I dont think the issue is where they come from - what we (sorry to take the Royal) are saying is that the odd day out of hosting from a chalet guide is nice as an add on but having to pay for a full blown instrauctor is not whats required.

If I want a lesson (and I do sometimes) then I pay for an instructor

If I want to wander around the ski area on my own (and I mostly do)then I shall

If my TO offers me no cost ski hosting that they've been at pains to say is at my own risk and does not feature any instruction then I may choose to use this one or two days in order to see what the seasonaire staff have found that I may not have in my one week in resort and to have a good day's craic with some like minded skiiers (equally if the group is full of Swiss Bankers then I can leave them and go my own way - as could they if the role was reversed)

But I think we're all in agreement that the ESF seem to want to be having their cake and eat it!

No probs - been interesting.

And I think ESF want a full 3 courser with choice of wines, coffee and a digestif...
All for 10 euros!!

:P

And that may be the debate closed ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner!

Tend to chalet in VDI so havent had that many meals out but when we do we love a fondue:

Auberge St Hubert on the main street, incredibly central location, epic cheese!!!!

Le Lodge - tiny place, great food (near Dicks)

Moris Pub - BIG burgers if you just want a light bite

Whilst I agree, it is unlikely to happen as VDI would then not have an "easy" skiable run back to the resort from the Tignes side. Due to the people I have been with, I have never actually done the black to the side of Santons, but I wonder if it would actually be the easier route for competent skiers. Mainly as it would keep them out of the way of the beginners in the chute.

Thanks for the comments on the pic btw. It was actually a snap taken with my phone, and not even a modern phone at that. The full size pic shows it is not so hot, and can be seen here if you wish.. Clicki Ici

Ive never done that black (epaule du charvet) either - but it's supposed to be bumpy as hell. Id rather do the Face!.

To be honest the best option can be one of the myriad of runs down to la Daille (and I think the OK red is easier than Vert in many ways) and get the bus. Its possibly quicker than the chute carnage/long flat at end of Santons. Depends on where you're headed in Val itself of course
