Before you do all of this, make sure you have checked with Ryanair first.
You dont want to waste all that money and then realise that there were no problems.

If you have a problem, then check the weather at various airports and see where you can fly from.

That would be my advice.
If the flight is diverted then the airline is responsible to get you to the designated airport at least.

Ok,

Ive looked on the Ryanair website and it only has information about today - saying Grenoble is closed. I dont know where to go to find out if it will be open tomorrow. Any ideas?

Also, Turin and Lyon both have forecasts for heavy snow.

right - a couple of qestions:

edit - it seems that if we fly to lyon we then get a train to grenoble and a bus from there to ADH is that right?

also, would there be any airports or airlines to avoid if im looking for flights from london to lyon? a budget airline if offering about £90 per person but a budget airline seems to have got me into this mess in the first place

Tony_H wrote:Yes, she left Gatwick, but didnt end up in Grenoble as planned. A massive storm socked in, and they diverted to Lyon. She texted me to say the conditions are dreadful as they have got to Grenoble. Airport is closed for the time being, and they have been warned this may not change until 18th Jan.
Effing fantastic.

oh my god

i knew the airport was closed today, but was hoping it might reopen by tomorrow.

can anyone suggest the ebst way to get from london to ADH tomorrow if the airport is still shut? i booked a ryanair flight.

very worried
If you are on Ryanair, book another flight as they wont be going. The charters will divert, but Ryanair will probably just cancel I imagine.
You want to fly to Lyon or Turin to give yourself a chance really.
It seriously is not looking very good at all based on the info I have been given, sorry.

Wow so your fairly certain it is a no go? oh dear. this is going to be expensive....

thanks

bandit wrote:sami_glasgow, Ryanair are very strict on the small details. I suggest that you take time to read the small print soon, and can meet all of the check-in and baggage criteria on the day. This will ensure that you do not get stung for extra charges at the airport. Ryanair make lots of money from folk who can't be bothered to read the small print ^^ :D

I see. Will do, thanks.

That just would not be as much fun, anyway just trying to pass on my experience

Ian, would it be fair to sum up your bad experience with RA as a "non-reading of the terms and conditions?" I sympathise with your experience, but could it have been avoided if you had read the Ts&Cs properly?

Sami, if you add in the £100 plus rail cost, not withstanding the day lost in travelling, is it really worth it?

(I didnt read the T&Cs in much detail).

Hope so. Train tickets can be pretty cheap sometimes. The outward journey to london cost me £12 last year, it does add on another day or two of travelling tho.

Thing is, I cant book the full holiday in advance, need to wait till the last min, and as far as Im aware im not likely to find alot of last min deals from scottish airports. Hence the plan to book last min, and when i saw cheap flights I thought - why not? We arrive ar grenoble at midday, and on the way home leave at 10pm, so might squeeze a few extra hours on the slopes...
