Back on topic (which smiley is looking the most smug?). 8) :?:
How do you wrap the chain around the skis? Around the bindings and then the post etc. or what? So what length of chain/cable do you need? Ally |

Ian, I think there might be a nasty bang if we tried that   Actually, we are seriously being told (and paid) to alter our farming methods to try to reduce greenhouse gases (for example, by blocking up field drains to increase the peat bogs, which are very effective carbon sinks, etc.). I am all in favour of more people going by train. I went to a business conference/workshop on climate change on Wednesday, and according to them things are looking grim now. Apparently if we all continue as we are now we will need another 2 planets to supply our needs (anyone got a spare planet or two?).
Plus, I prefer going on the train anyway :D Ally |

Another small improvement, presumably connected with the bad financial news in Europe at the moment.
Visa is quoting 1 pound = 1.1769 euros The best rate, apparently, (for us and the pound I mean) in the last 120 days was on the 6th May. Ally |

Are these ones any good?
http://shop.packyourbags.com/acatalog/Ski_Locks.html They look just like bike cable locks to me. |

I'm pretty sure they said it was for theft as well. But I never got to see the actual insurance policy.
How much does a ski lock cost, and where do I get one from (or has someone already said this?)? And how big are they (more luggage!)? |

Maybe I will e-mail the ski hire shop before we go, next year, because there's no point me paying for their insurance if it won't cover unlocked skis outside a cafe. I really wouldn't like to have to mess about locking skis.

I was looking at my NFU Mutual travel insurance policy (for a non-ski holiday) and I happened to notice what it says about ski theft.
In the list of what is NOT insured it says this: Theft of skiing equipment unless it is: from a locked building; or securely locked to an immovable object; or from an attended vehicle; or from an unattended motor vehicle, unless it is from a locked boot, concealed luggage compartment or glove compartment and force and violence has been used to get into the vehicle. Where there is no locked boot, concealed luggage compartment or glove compartment and there has been forcible and violent entry to the motor vehicle we will pay up to £1,000. So, in other words the NFU Mutual wouldn't insure anyone for the theft of their skis from outside a cafe unless they'd locked them. I wonder what the policy from the ski hire shop says? Ally |
