Pablo, I agree with you on this - we are always looking for the next thing to keep one step ahead of the other holiday cottage providers. Like, for example, we now provide free broadband in our cottages and I am thinking about trying to buy a seasonal ticket so they can park for free in our local beachside car park. I hope Snowbandit is reading this, so she can keep one step ahead of the opposition in the Alps :D Ally |

Sorry Bandit,
I meant the insurance companies might all insist that the skis and boards were locked up, not necessarily in one of Pablo's lovely-looking racks, so chains/cables and padlocks provided by the policy holders would also be okay but much less convenient. Ally |

My insurance company is refusing to insure my skis for theft unless they're in a locked rack, as I think I said a few pages back. But that doesn't seem fair if the locks aren't provided outside cafes.
I would have thought the ski lift companies could pay for the racks out of the money they get from the lift passes - I bet the passes would only have to go up by about 10 pence to pay for them. Ally |

Thanks Pablo. I found it :D http://www.skikey.com/ski-racks/ If ski nicking is on the increase, it's about time they started providing lockable racks in Europe. The racks don't really look over-expensive, and if they charged to use them I would have thought they'd pay for themselves pretty fast, especially if all the insurance companies refuse to insure skis against theft unless they're in a locked rack. We could all go vegan and plant trees all over the uplands - no need for cows, sheep, or cattle then :D

Oh, I never thought of that. What a good idea
The only problem is - I'd have to ski with a hammer in my pocket :D Perhaps the cafes should take some responsibility in this, and provide lockable racks - something like a combination between lockable supermarket trolleys and those lockable lockers where you get the key when you put your money in and lock them. What on earth do you do with those? :?: :?: Ally |

I didn't realize they were brakes until last year . I always thought those prongy things by the bindings were just so you could fit your skis together for carrying them. But I guess it explains why skis don't disappear down the mountain when they come off. Bandit, thanks. I will have a look in a bike shop for a cable lock just over 0.9m long. The next problem I have is this :- am I more likely to lose the key, or forget the combination? ..... It would be a long walk down the mountain .... Ally |
