Help me decide & marriage!
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 13 Replies
Whilst in France skiing I asked my Better Half to marry me and to my suprise she said yes, so its May 2010 were getting married. So we thought about going abroad and getting married and spending abit of money on it. Anyway my g/friend said "its a shame were spending all this money, we wont be able to go skiing"!!! Then said "cant we have a cheap wedding and go skiing with the kids in January" :P So we had a family vote and cheap wedding and skiing on the 1st week of January as exams are also an issue.

By January we will have kids of 14,14 and 15 and if were being honest it will probably be our last holiday together for along time, the kids will be on there way wanting to do there own thing.

So mines an age old question do I book early or do I wait? We will have to have an catered chalet as theres 5 of us. Loved France and Meribel for the amount of skiing the kids could experiance. Weird really as this is our last chance as a family to go away together skiing so it has to be special.

Not Bulgaria by the way, as well, i like to ski on snow!

What would you do?

Brucie wrote:I find that an offensive and ignorant allegation. I'm sorry you feel so sensitive and insecure that a light hearted remark affects you so.

If anyone else agrees with Tony on this I would apologise most sincerely for any hurt or distress caused by my innocent remark.

I was merely suggesting that thefts seem to happen more to English people.

Lighten up Brucie, and try and understand when someone is having some banter with you. Hurt or distress? Come on, get real. I merely picked up on your comment about it being an English thing about stealing stuff, which of course is totally untrue. Your comment actually came across as if to suggest it was an English thing to steal things, not to have had them stolen. I havent come across it anywhere, but have heard of places where skis do tend to go missing when parked outside bars etc, but I wouldnt want to speculate of the race of the thieves. They could quite easily have been Scottish though I guess.

Anyway, chill out Brucie, keep your hair on, and try and tune in with the funny side of life )

Im bold and dont like your tone! What have you got against bold people? Racist!

You should not let this get you down - your original post was at least ambiguous about whether you went off-piste or not. It's not that surprising that some people would pick it up that way and clearly you agree that anyobdy going off piste in those conditions would have been irresponsible. Nobody is picking on you - they are just trying to advocate good practice on the mountains.

that was how I read it as well to be honest

Same here tbh, now thats really knocked the smile off your face
Ski weekends

Tony_H wrote:Thanks. Yes, the plan is to fly out either late on a Thursday evening and back on a Sunday night, or out on a Friday early morning, and get at leadt 2 full days skiing out of it, possibly 3, but limiting the amount of time I need off work as thats the key issue in terms of annual leave.

Hiring a car is a possibility, but it may only be me and Mrs H or me and a mate, so keeping costs to a minimum is also essential, hence the question re public transport, as I know trains and buses in Europe are supposed to be cheap. A car for a weekend is likely to be £100 or more.

And yes, short transfers are better to maximise skiing time. I have not donr a short break before, apart from a few days in BKK a few years back, but that was just an excuse to drink heavily and was before I fully appreciated my skiing.

Any suggestions for resorts with easy transfers from the airports mentioned would be gratefully received.

Wanderer - life is for living. There is too much bad stuff going on in the world and at home to to stop me taking time out to do the things I enjoy in life, in particular skiing. I am already missing it badly after a fantastic week in St Anton, and its another 2 months until I next go, so I was looking for something workable in between to break the monotony.

Thanks for your advice though.

Im thiking of becoming your friend are you paying?

I do not like being tied down to set feeding times, thats my choice :D

Rig Arrabiata with some chilli for abit of kick, mouth watering already
