Started by User in Ski Chatter, 3 Replies
Hi all, thinking about booking for a group to Sauze d'Oulx. Can you tell me about the place please, are the lifts old? Anyone stayed in the Stella Alpine Hotel? Easily linked up to other resorts?

Any info will be helpful. Pics would be appreciated.

Thinking about going in March so whats the snow like?

There was a bar/hotel we found which showed footy up from the Brigette Chalet. We watched scum lose last time we were in there .

Was dinner time when we were in Arabba when it was packed on the slopes and Im sure they would of been doing the Circuit. Selva was much better for getting around than Arabba, just felt more central to get anywhere. You can also hit the the Alpe Di Siusi which is an excellent ski area, you would be clock watching if you were getting there from Arabba.

Went to Arabba last year and loved it. Went to Arabba in March from Selva and couldnt beleave how many people were on the slopes in that area it was packed, an accident waiting to happen.

Were trying to book Selva again as we loved it so much, mostly with the ease of getting to ski areas. At the moment Im being quoted prices of £250 more for the same Chalet on March 5th 2011.

Nice pics by the way and glad you enjoyed the hols.

Bye for now & any1 booked up yet?

Will probably lurk on here now and again and throw my 2 penneth worth in every now and again but apart from that its the end for me till the next ski holidays. Hope you all have a good summer!

Me, I get married at the end of May and work has gone mad so working all the hours I can at the moment to pay for the honeymoon (wish it was skiing).

Anyone booked for next year? If so where and when? Looked into Selva again for a group ski for 2011 and the price has gone up by £280  Crystal the cheeky barstools (no Ian Im not doin DIY). They knocked 10% off as well and they think its a good deal . So were going to wait a while. As for My better arf and me weve not booked anything yet.

Be good Andy

Have you got any photos? I've never been there, and it sounds quite interesting.

I know where your coming from with the last ski trip the best, it says alot though that we all want to go back to the same resort! Its just an excellent base, we didnt see the half of it from Arabba.

We all had a great time, and its always a massive bonus that the boss enjoyed it so much. 8)

My poles were 125cm, Im using slightly bigger now.

We didnt even think about "AFAICT" and couldnt beleave noone had told us about it :x, what a gem. Defo going back next year, hopefully the rest of the group will. Ive never had so much fun.

Yes its on the Sella Ronda. If you go on the green way round you go down to Selva, on the orange way round you sort of just miss it.

Just got back from Selva and the best time skiing ever.

Chalet was excellent, a very very short walk to the Ciampioni lift. Some of our group who didnt have skis and boots hired there gear from a ski shop right across from the Ciampioni lift. They were able to use the ski shop as a base for storing there skis and boots so they only had to pop across the road and that was them sorted, excellent service and a great location.

1st day skiing we headed off to St Christina which has a decent amount of red runs and a couple of blacks to play on. Went on the train through the mountain to get there then played around that area all morning. Excellent for getting your ski legs. Went on my arse on the short black as i was hitting it to fast. In the afternoon we headed back and to the Ciampioni lift and again had a play near the lift then the long black and red back into Selva.

2nd day we were wanting to check out Canazei as we were told that the Chalets and ski area was really good. Thats all it was, good! 1 red into Canazei which was nice but if theres no snow it would be awful getting back at the end of the day. Then a slog (a long slog)to the Chalets, we were knackered. Got a Noddy train back to the lift after a coffee. All agreed not a chance we were staying there. Headed off to Arabba then onto Corvara and Colfosco which looked decent areas.

3rd day had a lesson on short turns on the blacks. Im told my ski poles are to short, Instructor lends me his and Im much better, far from perfect but Ive got the gist of it. Went and did the 10k run into Ortisei and played round that area. Went back over to home and onto the Play Park, did the ski/boarder Cross which was excellent then went on the one with the jumps did 2 of the jumps but i was awful and bottled the 3rd. The bottom of my feet were in pain. You heard the thud when i landed, it was like watching a fish trying to walk aroud a roudabout.

4th day and what a day. Played on the reds around the Snow Park, then went through the trees which are next to the Parks. The most perfect conditions and none wanted it to end. Light snow, moguls, fast blacks and cruisey carving reds. Everyone buzzing.

5th day headed off to the Marmolada but we got to Arabba and it was carnage and visability was awful. Ive never seen so many peeps on a Piste at the same time. Wee go off the idea of the Marmolada mostly because of the visability so do the Sella Ronda Circuit.

6th day we decide to go to the "Alpe Di Siusi". Catch a bus outside the ski shop across from the Ciampioni lift. 10 mins later and a 5 minute walk were on the lift (cant remember the name). Everyone looking pissed off!!! Go down a short red and bloody hell, how vast is this place. One of our group finds a Piste map and its massive. Everyones jaw drops and were like kids in a sweet shop. The Pistes are mostly empty and the snow is excellent. Last day and were ripping the place up, playing on moguls and watching mad men go down the "self timer" fastest i seen was 93 km/ph. Towards the end of the day catch a bus for 3 Eurios to the Monte Pana lift then up and over the top back towards Selva. Last black and red all the way down, leg burn and knackered.

Selva as a base is the dogs thingys. You can get every where and we had some beginners who were grateful for the nursery slopes and short bus journey to some easy reds. Better than Arabba, much better. Were going back hopefully next year
