I'll let you know after February as we are hoping to go to an Austrian resort then. Probably Lech.

Our ski holidays in France have all been great. Good food, good skiing, good people.

Just had a look at the Zermatt website, and they are stating 213km open out of a total of 360km and 40 no. out of 54 no. lifts. Not too bad all things considered. Not that much new snow in the forecasts although we have 17 days still to go. I'm glad we opted for the new year rather than Christmas week.....

Just had a look at the Zermatt webcams and there appears to be plenty of snow, even when viewed from the Sunnegga cam which is down at 2,288m. There is no snow in the village yet but that doesn't really matter for Zermatt as the majority of the skiing is above 2,300m. The Zermatt website is indicating 170km of pistes already open with quite a few also open on the Italian side.

Just had a look at the cams in Val Thorens. Looks like there is cover down into the village there.....but then that is circa 2300m.

I think pre Christmas, I would only choose Val Thorens or Tignes.

Well I stand corrected. The Zermatt webcams are showing quite a bit of snow in the town (which I think is around 1,600m). It's bound to melt but hopefully the stuff higher up will start to build up.

I don't think Snow-Forecast.com is predicting snow down to 1,500m, more like 2,000 to 2,200m but that still picks up a lot of the resort. Almost 1.5m predicted for the coming week!

Hmmmm......not that I relish challenging the wise words of admin but we did experience very slushy conditions in Les Arcs and La Plagne in March 2011 (Sat 5th to Sat 12th). it was generally ok high up but anything below about 1,800m was not great. The air temperature was very high and stones were rolling down onto the pistes by the end of the week. We could have skied in our t shirts!
