 In half a dozen visits over the years I've never seen it looking even close to "fresh groomed" like that! Must be an absolute blast in that condition. It's always been mogulled to hell on my trips (even first thing to avoid the crowds), at least the final section anyway. |

To be fair, their policy is stated pretty clearly and they are flexible on the distribution of the weight you've paid for :-
That's from http://www.easyjet.com/EN/Planning/baggage.html From the above, Tony's policy of stuffing his ski bag is explicitly stated as just fine with Easyjet as long as the total weight comes in right. (I'd thought that might be pushing things, so glad I looked it up!) The excess baggage charges are intended to be punitive, and they have to be - if the plane's overweight it won't (be allowed to) fly. As bandit says, some of the TO limits and charges do seem excessive and only designed to generate revenue - always read the small print. |

Deer Valley Resort has been named the #1 ski resort in North America by the readers of SKI Magazine for an astonishing fifth year in a row.
Aside from being named the #1 Resort overall out of 60 North American resorts, Deer Valley ranked winningly in many individual categories. Highlights included the Resort being given #1 rankings for grooming, service, weather, on-mountain food, lodging and dining. The Resort also received #2 rankings for lifts and access, and #3 rankings for digital presence and overall satisfaction. More than 20,000 SKI readers are surveyed for its "Top 60 Resort Guide" by an independent research firm. SKI readers ski an average of 23 days a year. The ski resort survey is the most comprehensive and longest-running in the winter sports industry. Some of the individual comments that were made by skiers about Deer Valley this year were, "Service is top notch, grooming impeccable, food outstanding"; "Excellent customer service for the same prices as other resorts with no customer service"; They do everything right!"; "On-mountain food is insane! Service is exceptional"; and "These guys get what it means to manage the details. Consistent first-class experience." For more information, see Deer Valley Resort, or visit deervalley.com. |

Les Deux Alpes looks like an excellent option. As said, the Beginner's / Early Inters area is up high above the town on a very sunny (probably, at that time of year) plateau. The runs on and from the glacier are easy to reach from there and long and wide, so will be quite a contrast from Lesotho!
There is no need to "risk" the runs down to the town - just hop on the gondola (Jandri Express? is that the one?) at the end of the day. Plenty of people do and your legs will thank you for it if you've had a long day on the slopes. [ETA - having checked the piste map (see link to the left), there are three different gondolas serving the Cretes area. I think you might even be able to download on one of the chairs too IIRC but don't bank on that] |

Following some respectable snow last weekend, winter has opted to tease us further - most of the Alpine region has seen clear skies and settled weather over the past few days. Although mild temperatures have returned to the Western Alps it has remained cool to the East.
European Weather and Snow This Coming Week Temperatures look set to remain around the seasonal average, and below in the East, for the next few days at least - with fairly settled conditions continuing. The forecast models have been hinting at the possibility of another cold "snap" toward the end of next week but that's by no means clear just yet. We'll watch that with interest. |
