The routes are spectacular and can get you to, or very close to several excellent ski resorts like Whistler and Lake Louise. The highways are well maintained. But there are lots of passes, that get heavy snow, and can be hazardous or closed during winter storms.

I was in the Rockies in September (admittedly snow less) and we got the train to Jasper before bus to Lake Louise down the spectacular Ice Fields Parkway and then onto Bannf.

We then got the train through the Rockies to Kamloops and down to Vancouver

The scenery is AMAZING and the Canadian trains are clean, efficient, on time - basically everything that UK ones are not

The 3 valleys piste map is so big that it takes a bit of getting used to to follow it from page to page

I'd consider a "wipeout" goggles cleaner/piste map that's been talked about on here before as a great investment as the paper version gets knackered quickly when you have to check it often

I have nowt to do with the company etc - nut am a satisfied customer for both this one and the Espace Killy version. Oh and dunno if you've seen any advertising or in shops etc but apparently it's Christmas soon......

With yet more snow on the way, if you're heading out on the mountain make sure you check the local avalanche bulletin, have the appropriate knowledge and safety equipment, and be extremely careful out there http://ow.ly/fQlkv

A "+1" to this - lots of snow in a short space of time this early in the season can be very unstable

At the expense of plagiarising Hill Street Blues - "let's be careful out there"
The BMW Gondola

If its a BMW it will surely get stuck in the snow as per every other talentless gimp on Tyneside who owns a Bavarian Sled has been for the last 2 days....

Bonus points for the third clause - I always get great style marks from the judges but not so good for technical difficulty......

and if that's the bottom of the EK then the rest will be awesome when we all get there (I'm claiming vicarious fun through the group as we'll overlap by around 4 hours)

Well they were changing the top of the Face so maybe theres a new entrance to the red - would be no bad thing as the icy track to the red proper was worse than the Face
