Thanks Admin :D
The trouble is that I don't want to ski at Christmas and miss seeing all the family back home, and my friend's kids have to be back in school on Thursday 5th Jan, so we can't go Sat 31st Dec to Sat 7th Jan (which are the dates I'd prefer). Ski holidays seem to be about £250 more per person for the New Year week than for the week before or after. In fact we could bring my husband as well for Christmas week instead and pay the same total price as New Year, but we'd still miss the rest of the family, and he doesn't like snow. It's all very annoying  And, even if my friend's kids decide to miss 2 days of school and come to Courchevel with us, Eurostar can't tell me if they're going to be running a direct train to Moutiers on Sat 31st Dec. They say I will have to wait until the tickets come on sale at the beginning of July to find out! So, I am trying to forget about ski-ing at the moment. Ally |

I am thinking about going to Tignes, instead of Courchevel, for our main holiday, for the week after Christmas including New Year, because the chalet we go to is doing Monday to Monday, whereas the self-catering in Courchevel would be Saturday to Saturday, which doesn't fit in for us with New Year and Christmas.
But I looked at the price of flights from Gatwick or Bristol to Geneva and back for that date, and it was £226 each! That's about 3 X what we paid in October! I thought the week after Christmas would be much cheaper than Feb half-term, but it's working out almost as bad  I would like to ski Tignes and Val D'Isere. So far we've only been able to ski on the glacier at Tignes because of going in October. Ally |

Alistair, I'd like to go back to Courchevel, but get a 3 Valleys pass this time and ski out of the Courchevel valley in the afternoons after my lesson. The problem is I'd like to go with the same group of people as last year but the only week we're all free without missing any school is the actual Christmas week, and I'd hate to be away from home for Christmas. As far as I can remember I've had Christmas here for the last 30 years. Plus, I wouldn't like to leave any family members behind, so we'd have to bring another 5 people with us! If one of us misses 2 days of school (and why on earth is his school going back on a Thursday anyway?) then we could go the week of 31st Dec to Sat 7th Jan. But the problem with that is that if we go back on the Eurostar night train again it means trying to get back home from London Sunday morning on New Year's Day by train, and I don't suppose they'll be running. In fact, come to think of it, the Eurostar night train might not be running on New Year's Eve  I should think the Eurostar tickets will come on sale in July, like last year, so I've got until then to decide what to do. Andy,
Have a good time in Tignes :D I'm just starting to think about planning my next year's ski holiday, hopefully around Uni Christmas holiday dates rather than Feb school half-term. Ally |

Glad to hear you're sorted Alistair. Well done
Watch you don't trip over the fronts though, when you're turning. Those skis look rather wide  Ally |

There was a McDonalds in Zell am See when we were there a few years ago. In fact, the premises were leased from the hotel we were staying in - the Heitzmann, but I rather think the owners wanted to expand so it's probably moved now.
I hate McDonalds myself  Ally |

Hi Tropicana,
I've often wondered what would happen if I didn't let go of a button lift in time. So what happened to you exactly? And did they stop the lift? During my last holiday, in an advanced lesson, I came off the chairlift a bit wrong, overbalanced, wobbled a bit, and then fell over. I couldn't get back up either (because of course it was dead flat and I'm getting old and stiff now) and the instructor had to give me a hand to get back up. He was very nice about it,though, and didn't send me back to the beginner's class  That's one of the many things I like about ski-ing - we all make total fools of ourselves at some point during the holiday  Ally |
