20 seconds of the 'Austria' video shows the most hideous thing I could imagine for a "family" ski holiday
...whereas a week with Jessie J

Had the misfortune to suffer a live performance by the so-called singer known as Jessie J - a week with her would make me jump out of the nearest cable car!

As for the prat behind the bar in Ischgl - just stick to serving the drinks, mate!
Austria vs France

For personal preference, I put Austria and Italy above France these days. I think it's down to the feeling that my presence in Aut and Ita is welcomed whereas in France, particularly the 'mega-ski' stations, it's all about my money.
Wonderful ski areas in France but the Austrian holiday experience nicks it for me!

PS - I prefer Switzerland of all alpine destinations, but there's the small matter of cost to consider! -)

So say weathermen - people keen on science but were no good at it!

Looking at the webcams from La Thuile and La Rosiere this morning - plus the temperatures forecast over the next three days - it looks more like April than December! What little snow there is will struggle to last given temps around 10-12 degrees this week. Time for that north wind to blow!

Which means they can claim there is some skiing and reject any claims for lift pass refunds!

It was immensely popular with British skiers when I went there, three times, in the late 1970s-early 1980s. However, the lift system was old then and took a long time to catch up with modern standards. They also had some well-publicised poor snow seasons that didn't do its reputation any good.

(PS - I've skied in New South Wales - Thredbo, Perisher and Mount Blue Cow!)

I really like Thredbo, love the village feel. Perisher is a little sterile for me

Crowley, I liked Blue Cow best of the three - it had the feel of high mountains and Happy Valley in snowstorm was great fun. The best day, however, was at Thredbo, skiing off the Karels t-bar in deep, new snow one Saturday morning.
