Hi REMSki. Daft question, but worth asking. Do you have your own boots? If not, I'd recommend not buying the skis and buying a decent pair of boots. If you have got your own boots, I still wonder about buying your own skis, given the level of skiing that you are at. I don't know where you are based, but in the UK (where I am based) it is quite expensive to transport skis by air and so it works out about the same amount of money to rent skis in resort, so I always rent. And hopefully as I improve, I can rent better skis appropriate for my skiing level. If you buy a pair of skis, then you are stuck with them.

Oh no. Not a load of Welsh people going. What's Italian for "What it is...." or "I'm not being funny mind....."?

Merly, I think what puts me off Zermatt is overall costs (hotel, food, beer, ski hire etc.), not just hotel costs. Zermatt was expensive even when the Swiss franc was not so strong against the pound. Also, Cervinia is nearby and offers similar (OK, not the same) skiing for a lot less money.

Acarr. You could do worse than some of the Scandinavian resorts for early April.
