I agree with Belle Plagne, have stayed there twice and it is by far the nicest Plagne village. Not sure about your style of nightlife but as a family with teens, Belle and Bellecote (linked by a telecabin that runs nearly all night) did us proud. Also, our opinion is that Belle is perfectly placed for getting over to Les Arc, with the surrounding area being much quieter than the rest of La Plagne, especially in busy times.........happy choosing!

I had surgery for a ruptured achilles and was in plastercast and boot as you were. I have not had any problems skiing, locked in a ski boot is quite a safe place for an achilles and I felt able to trust it 100%. Careful of pulling a weak calf muscle when you take your boot off. Also took a while buying ski boots as my ankles are not same thickness as each other now..... Good luck all should be fine!

Last week, had a bit of a session with the medi-evil basket of a chairlift on top of the Glacier in La Plagne! As the chairlift is so tiny I had shoved myself back as far as possible, in doing so my backpack went over the back of the seat, consequently when it came to getting off I couldn't, sensible solutions went out the window and few wonderful seconds of full scale panic set in, during which time my husband "trying to save me" gave me an almighty shove off the lift resulting in a shredded calf muscle.....whilst I will dine out on his guilt trip for weeks just wanted to post a message to all virgin backpackers like me.....carry them in front on lifts!!
Be Safe! Ski Well! |

I think hiking boots are fine, my family uses them now, the walking paths and social areas are mostly cleared of snow, the only time boots would be better if there is fresh deep snow.....or if you have the inclination to walk off piste!

Thanks so much everyone, all very helpful, will speak to consultant and although I'm sure he wouldn't wave us off at the airport, hopefully it may be a risk worth taking. Only other thought do you tell the insurance company anyway or just keep quiet and hope you dont need them?
