I went to ruka last year and had a fantastic time
We were spoilt for choice regarding snow activities such as snow mobiling husky ,dog sledging, cross country skiing, reindeer farm experience etc.
We also went to see father christmas which really was a brilliant evening out!
In ruka itself there is very little to do except ski so possibly consider a hotel with activities included
We stayed at holiday club kussamo which was very nice and was about 45 minutes from ruka on a free ski bus.

hi
just a little tip i learnt whilst learning to ski is if like me you were not the quickest person skiing down the mountain please dont get nervous of people coming past you faster and dont keep looking behind you to see that you are not in anyones way as it is the person who is coming past you to make sure they do in a safe and responsible way. Just concentrate on enjoying your skiing and you will have a great time
