Banff January

Ha yeah thats why we are going in January because it was cheaper because of the cold. I bought new board pants because it was so cold (my old ones have a few pin holes in them which wouldnt be good in that temp) Problem with canadian stuff is that I live in the UK and most companies wont export to Europe (because if they sell it in europe they can double the price) you get me?

I always wear mits anyway because I hate getting cold hands. Man I hope my new boots work ok I forked out nearly £200 on them so they better be the bomb in cold weather?

Ha I just bought a coat which should stand -40! I am more worried about my boyfriend as he blatently wont layer up but I am sure he will quickly learn. I am buying him thermals for christmas.

thanks for the advice though I guess I can look at what they are selling and then see if I can get it in England. Cheers!
Hmmm lets face it they predicted a hot dry summer this summmer.... obviously it was so dry my home town was 6foot under water and I had to swim to work so Lets not get a hopes up. WE ALL KNOW SNOW WILL COME... its just a matter of how long it takes to get there! BUS's dont see one for hours and then they all come at once!

HI I went to Courchevel last year about that time. There was pleanty of snow up at 1850 over to meribel and val thorens. Though it can get a bit slushy. I'd recommended holding back and just watching the snow forcast. Book it about 3 - 4 weeks before you go rather than now.

I would also go high: places like Tignes, Val Thorens Chamonix. Avoid the souther alpes and south facing resorts like the plague. The more sun plus the more heat = less snow at that time of year.

Its already booked!!!

My friend who travels alot skiing and snowboarding recommended Banff in january rather than whistler but I suppose its all a matter of personal choice. I just kinda wanted to know about conditions. Plus Whistler was starting to get very expensive when we priced it up. Banff appeared more value for money when only visiting for one week. Plus I was wanting to meet up with some friends from the US and Banff is apparently easier for them to get to. I suppose I can always eye up whistler for next year!!!

Super! I can live with out the powder if its not icey. Year after year i have headed out to the alps and rode a mountain of ice. This is never good. but just average snow I can live with!

Ha Im only going for a week unfortunatly. Then im back to the french alpes for a couple of weeks in march.

So the snows pretty good then? I would imagine it to be quite icey though? I suppose there is limited chance of discovering powder at this time of year?
The snow quality is the main concern of mine as its so random across the alpes at that time of year. Well I am sure I will have a great time no matter what the snow is like.

I am staying at the Rocky Mountain Chalet as all our meals are included so we dont have to go out into the town if we are exhausted from the day on the mountain. Do you know much about this place?

Hi, Im going to Banff in the middle of January. Could anyone give me idea on what the conditions should be like, including things like how windy it gets, how much layering I should need?

I know it gets pretty chilly but Chilly in the french alpes vs chilly in canada could be two completely different things.

Thanks guys!
