I dont htink I could possibly wait that long... Im going to Banff in January and I cant that long!

(ha my council doesnt know what road salt is... resulting in me sliding down the road sideways in my car... scary. Snow in the right place is fabulous... snow on a steap road with no chains is NOT GOOD)

I am not all knowledge regarding banff as this year is my first time but I do know as a rule it gets better snow than most of europe. At the end of the day I actually think there is no point stressing about whether it shall be a good season and reading the weather reports every day. Its more effective to sit and pray to every god in every religion and perhaps try a little witch craft in bring in the snow.

Damn straight it is!!! and we are owed one after last years season! oh yeah just a note places like Tahoe and and some utah colorado resorts could have a bit of a slow start. But again this is a weather prediction. Take it with a pinch of salt!

Yes Rossfra8 you are right it isnt deffinate. it varies from place to place but Thanks I shall now further your comment

: Places in more southern areas will tend to get cold and dry whilst the more northern area's get more precipitation. NER NER NER check out my big word. But this is just usual weather pattern take Britain for example it rains more in the north than it does in the south. But this is kinda more extream

La nina will cause ski resorts such as southern CA and Arizona to be cold and drier but the more northern places cold and wet. But due to there higher temp places like whilstler for example with get rain at the bottom of the mountain but big dumps at the top where its colder. This is because coast temps. tend to be warmer than in land. Places further in land like erm winter park or Banff which are genually colder than the coastal resorts (as land cools quicker than water)Should get big dumps.

It purely depends on where abouts you are in the whole la Nina effect. But for europe it will most probably mean SNOW.

The La Nina apparently contributed to this years terrible summer (the heavy rainfall and miserable days)And the floods in Africa.

Right... I might be wrong so please dont slaughter me if I am BUT what I can get from it is:

Its a weather system, it is a flucturation of ocean temp and atmospheric temp. There is Al Nino (which usually happens around christmas time) and La Nina.

They both mainly affect the southern hemispher and the pacific. You can see the true effects of el nino and la nina in the galapolous islands as the water temp heats up or cools down and kills off all the wild life as there is no food. its all about balance.

Anyway back to point the Al nino can affect the rest of the world last year was Al Nino which contributed to the unusally warm temps across europe and the late ski season. (it was too warm to snow)

Ok anyway specifically La nina means that the water temp is unusally cold which ultimately cools down the land which means instead of rain we get SNOW!!! So in theory it should be a good ski season if the year is a La nina but it will it will be a crappy season if its Al nino.

But all this weather stuff should be take with a pinch of salt because its a prediction. If it happens it happens if it doesn't... oh well.
