Snowboards and lifts!!!Help!!!
Started by User in Snowboarding, 8 Replies
HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!! the dreaded CHAIR LIFTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We all love to hate them. Its like taking your life into your own hands. Just go for it. If you are regular try and sit on the right and if your goofy try and sit on the keft. When your about to get off, shuffle forward. Wait untill your board is on the snow and hop off. Try to aim your board forward and put a bit of pressure on your toe edge which will take you round and out of the dismounting area. Dont worry about falling over just accept it as a learning curve. It takes everyone few times to crack it!

(I have been snowboarding for 8 years now and I am still scared of the lifts)
Style....or lack of it.

My pesonal opinion is that style is more about control. When I finanaly learnt how not to "kick my turns" I found it far easier to manage the black slopes and throw myself of kickers with out killing myself. I also felt that my confidence in my ability grew massively. I no longer panicked when I got to the top of the chair lift thinking oh crap I have to get off now. I also no longer thought "oh no i have to go down THAT?"

I was also able to go alot faster and stop quicker once I learnt about "style" or good board control.

I know this is going to sound like a cruel and unusual punishment for all snowboarders alike but if you want to perfect your style go to a dry ski slope as it has absolutely no give what so ever. So you cant be sloppy with your turns. IT WILL make you cry at first through pain and flustration but once you crack it ITS AMAZING because your snowboarding will improve massively and your confidence will increase and most importantly you will have a better time!
Catered or Self Catering

CATERED!!!! its so much easier. You come down stairs and your breakfast is ready for you, When your tired in the evening your dinner is ready for you. Plus you dont have to worry about overspending as much, as your always going to be fed! Though I suppose this is the lazy skiers/boarders choice.

What to wear in the evening

Where the hell you like! In most ski resorts people just wrap up warm. I tend to go with Jeans boots and a jumper. Its only really poser resorts like Courchevel people dress up and even then it is no where near like a night out in london. Just wear what you feel comfortable in!
What are your winter goals?

according to the BBC website Banff is open for its winter season a few days early due to pleanty of snow. Apparently there is approximately 47/47 cm of snow. Which isnt bad if you ask me! Though apparently the best snow is to be found across europe at the moment we over a meter of snow in Cervina! And pleanty more of where that came from heading to all ski resorts across europe and canada in the next week. This should be a fabulous ski season by the looks of things.

ISN'T IT ALL EXCITING!!!! I CANT WAIT TO STRAP MY BOARD BACK ON!!!! I am like a child at christmas.

Hi if your a single traveler and not bothered about having to share a room with randoms try www.outgoingski.co.uk they are excellent. you can get all your accomodation, ski hire, and food included for less than £500 and an extra £60 for a coach down to one of the alpine resorts. I went snowboarding with them as a single traveller and had a great time. Take a look and tell me what you think?
