Long Weekend Skiing

Thanks for pointing that out - I of course was talking about Lez Carroz.

We also did a stop off at Lez Clusaz on route to Chamonix but it is a long windy road to get there !
Off Piste Insurance??????

You need to check the small print carefully re. off piste cover. We use Insure&Go who are one of the cheapest insurers I have found. Their small print for off piste cover says something like 'covered for off piste skiing except in areas designated as unsafe' in other words as long as you don't ski past warning signs or on slopes covered by high avalanche risk warnings you are covered.

Interestingly, the insurance from the Ski Club of Great Britain says something like 'covered for off piste in areas designated as safe by the resort'. I have never been to a resort which issues a list of safe off piste routes !

I would recommend always using a guide when off piste - in resorts such as Flaine and Tignes there are crevaces within a few yards of the piste !

Safe skiing :D
Long Weekend Skiing

We have been doing long weekends for the past few years
- arrive at Geneva at around 9am
- pick up a hire car (in the Swiss side of the airport even though you are going to France)
- drive to Les Carroz in approx 45mins/1 hour in time to get the afternoon skiing.
- If you get a late flight back you can ski all day, ski back to the car and drive back to Geneva in time for a flight at approx 9pm.
- Les Carroz links into Flaine which is an excellent ski area.

Alternatively drive to Chamonix (Les Houches is the nearest village) but you will need a car to get to the ski areas each day. The advantage is that you can choose different areas each day including Les Houches, Chamonix, Argentiere.... :D
Baggage Allowance when taking skis

Generally budget airlines and tour operators will charge to carry sports equipment including skis & snowboards but scheduled airlines including British Airways give you an additional allowance for sports equipment.
I took a windsurf board, 3 sails, 2 masts, 1 boom, 2 boogie boards & 1 skim board to Crete with BA for no additional charge !
