Of the resorts I've been to, Risoul has some good long green runs round and about the resorts (but not as good as Alpe D'Huez looks on the piste map - never been though). Risoul is good in that all runs lead back to the resort (just about). Les Deux Alpes has some good beginners runs in town, and some great runs on the glacier to progress on to - odd piste layout, though, in LDA - bit of a marmite resort. For beginners and early intermediates, Hemsedal in Norway is good. But not much for better intermediates or advanced skiers. With all resorts, I'd have an eye on which weeks are likely to be busy. French resorts are generally busier during French school hols. Hemsedal is rammed during Oslo winter break.

Far Queue, Bedrock won't have anything left in his wallet after his trip to ValD' in December.....Bedrock, what were you doing stuck up a cathedral roof? My job's pretty hard work ATM, and I fancy a career change, so is there any space in the cathedral for a gargoyle?

Grand point Alessi. We could also have an "intro to snowsports" thread covering stuff like what to wear and where to get it (TKMaxx or nicked from your brother), what to expect when you get there, do you need lessons, whether to DIY or TO, etc etc etc.

Why not try some out in resort? See how you get on with a few and then decide from there....
