New Boots, what would you do?
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 25 Replies
I am so torn at the moment and i would really value your opinion on this.

OK, i am buying my first boots this year. I planned to buy them now in the sales but i was put off by the fact that i wanted to get them fitted properly by Colin (who frequents these boards) down in Bicester. He comes highly recommended and as i have suffered with every boot i have hired i thought it would be better to go down this route and get it right first time.
Colin has advised me to wait until September for the full range of boots to become available which seems sound. I don't really need them now but......

But now i am watching the prices tumble on last years stock. Places like EB are offering some good prices and i have just noticed somebody post a 20% off voucher which makes them even more tempting.

So the question is do i wait and know i will get a decent fitted pair at probably double the cost i could pay now and have fitted by EB?
My head says wait, pay the extra but my wallet is saying buy buy buy.....

Have you used any? I would prefer to stick to the standard ones but i wonder if they will pop out too easily when the helmet moves and flexes about.

Yep. Giro 'tune ups' for a 'Fuse' helmet. I'd never use headphones that aren't 'in-ear' again so far me they were rubbish especially compared to my usual ones.

I stopped listening to music whilst skiing a couple of years ago.

Thanks, when i say standard i mean 'in ear' but only the ones you get with an ipod/iPhone. I have some sennheiser ones that plug in really deep but they feel weird to me because the cut out nearly all background noise and i feel really isolated.....does that make sense? I know they would stay put but i just don't like them....its like having blocked ears. On the plus side the bass on them is awesome.

Ok guys,

Putting aside the debate of whether or not you should be plugged into your iPod whilst on the slopes i would like to hear from anyone who uses either the standard ipod headphones with a helmet or the newer helmets with built in speakers.

I am a big fan of music whilst skiing and so far just use my standard headphones tucked under my hat. But next year i am planning to buy a helmet and would like to know how comfortable headphones are underneath them. Also how good the dedicated helmet systems really are.

Many thanks

Jon
Totally off topic but i am just wondering when you have time to be a doctor!

You seem to have an awesome life, so jealous.

Yes they are expensive.

We joined as members, which gives benefits, and booked the private lesson for Megan and it cost £170.

The lesson being £40.

Membership does give 4 free sessions (£100 Approx) and 30 % off all future sessions so i think it is worth it in the long run. I am hoping to use the off season to get my good lady and my daughter up to parallel standard ready for next year.

Indoor places do serve a purpose.
I myself have booked a 1-1 lesson for my ten year old next week at the Snowdome in Tamworth. And i will be having an hour on the snow myself.
If she wasn't having this lesson i doubt i would go as it generally frustrates me as the slope is too short and it arouses feelings of sadness that i can't be in the mountains.
