^+1 Crikey blimey! Who were you skiing with? Not Lord Lucan, Martin Bormann, Ronnie Biggs and Shergar by any chance? -) |

+1 for Old Andy's comments. I'd be looking at Tignes or Val Thorens. Never skied later than last week in March before. Going to Val Thorens at the end of April this year. I am pretty cautious when choosing a resort, but have been sufficiently re-assured by people who have been before to part with my hard-earned.

I'd stay in the town itself. Can't see the point of staying halfway up the mountain in a place like Sauze when it's all kicking off in town. We stayed at the Gran Bosco: nice and friendly, good food, cheap bar, etc. Only criticism would be location; about 1km from the action. Free bus to Clotes lift every morning. Free bus into town after dinner. Even a free bus back to the hotel but the last one was at midnight (or was it 1am?) -) On a couple of nights, when the craic was especially mighty, we said 'Stuff the free bus', and walked back. No big deal: wouldn't fancy it in ski-boots though :) .
Often seen deals for Hotel Relais des Alpes (4*, central location) for handy money. Hope this helps. |

Jeez, the geriatric gravy train just keeps on rolling! Almost as irrelevant and embarrassing as the Rolling Stones. In 1973, yes. In 2013, have a word with yourselves guys. If they were playing in my garden I'd turn up the TV and draw the curtains! There, rant over.

You should be OK. Just re-read you original post and noticed that you are going last two weeks in march and not first two weeks in April. I would certainly go again in mid-March. Not sure I would be quite so brave if I were coming over from Brazil with all the extra costs. Keeping fingers crossed for you -) . Have a good one

I should think you'll be OK. Been in Sauze d'Oulx a week later than that and even though the temperatures were up to 17* in the afternoon the snow was fine on the whole. No problem at all between the Sportinia bowl and Sestriere/Sansicario but it was patchy in Cesana Torinese, making the link to Claviere/Montgenevre, where the skiing was excellent, a bit of a ball-ache  . We took the bus to Claviere the next time to take advantage of the skiing there. By the time we had skied to Montgenevre it was time to ski back! The Clotes run down from Sportinia was mashed potato at 5 o'clock and there was no snow at all on the run down to Jouvenceaux.
On the Saturday evening before we left it started snowing big-time and didn't stop until Monday morning. What a result for the people who arrived on Sunday. 1m of fresh! :D What's more, the apres is on a par with Austria. We had a great time. I would suggest you put it on your list of possibilities :) . Make sure you stay in Sauze itself if you like a bit of craic at night-time. Sestriere is 'Doomsville', and the nightlife in the outlying resorts is very much based around the hotel bars. |

Just got back from Skiwelt area and can highly recommend it. You can be the judge whether you need such a big area lift pass €187/279km. Loads of blues and easy reds, very few draglifts and single seaters. 4 boarders came to Soll with us on the Crystal social skiing day and enjoyed it. Not many flat bits and those that we came across were easily negotiated if you let the board/skis carry a bit of extra speed. Definitely worth a look.
