I wouldn't read too much into that, they are German, it would be surprising if they didn't have more coverage in German speaking areas and have a preference for the stations closer by like sud Tirol.

It's a bit like a UK survey turning up the Val d'Isere and the Portes du Soleil are the top, it's a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy.

it's just dull and repetitive though isn't it? you'd have to have the attention span of a goldfish not to recognise it's all been done before

They won't want to sell you any boots, as you read like you're a cynical old sod )

That's skiing for you, there's no shortage of people so desperate to appear to be insiders they'll regurgitate this silliness with a straight face

Still, summer's on the way and we've run most of them out of town now :D

Cheers Ise for the info, it was only when i read an article in a sunday paper at the time that i found out about the required Hi-Viz jacket, until then I had seen nothing in the press iether here or abroad, it's probably one of the only good things to come out of Brussels......shame it's only cost us about £600 Billion in payments to the EU : :(

Not only could they buy you all a high vis' vest, they could have chucked a car in as well :D

This piece of french legislation has been in for about two years now, but was not advertised outside of france as the money grabbing beaurauctars realised what a money making idea they had come up with....along with the extra speed cameras and police thay now patrol the motorway from Calais, if they stop you for speeding they then ask where is you're Hi-Viz jacket...and wham a double fine.

In thier defence i actually think this is a good idea as when you have broken down or are fixing a flat you are not instantly visable kneeling down or waiting along the hard shoulder for the recovery team and this gives oncoming traffic a better chance of avoiding you....it's just a bit naughty they didn't advertise if to us brits or anyone else.

The bit about all passengers needing one is a suprise as I am sure when the law came out only the driver was required to have one ,I will check this out. :D :D The other things you require by law are a warning triangle ,spare set of bolbs ,snow chains ( in the winter if driving in the alps) and if using you're own car some headlight beam decflectors or beam benders so ou do not dazzle oncoming traffic

Jon.:D

You need to carry one only, the other stuff is just some nonsense from another forum, it's hugely advertised outside France courtesy of the EU whose primary legislation it is. The French had a leaflet suggesting carrying a couple was a good idea which it is and I'll get second ones for our cars.

They will if you're a 5 year old girl, mostly grown ups manage to get on and off the chair unaided :D
A detachable chair operates on a gear, at the bottom and mostly the top the brake releases from the main cable which takes a longer path while the chair brakes onto a shorter cable that's slower before braking back onto the main cable. So you can run the chair fast without having a really fast loading. I think you get 5 m/s compared to a couple on the fixed system, something like that but around twice the speed I think.

You can get this effect from a moving carpet loading as well, accelerating skiers up to the speed of the chair while still keeping a low differential speed between the skier and the chair.

But, with a detachable you get an added bonus that you can remove chairs really easily, that's a good win as you can reduce the power required at low season and taken them off quickly for high wind.

So it's odd you'd not install one, but the Grand Massif has a history of lift innovation, the DMC and an early eight seat chair so it might be something fiendishly clever they're installing :D
