Now this is not intended as a joke post: what do folk think about using the ski programme on a Wii (other games consoles are available)? Is there any pay off into the real world ?
Diary of a knee injury

Nelly, re the pain on movement, I presented myself at a hospital in Austria a few hours after twisting my left knee in December. The knee had come up like a balloon and I could hardly even get into my friend's car to get to the hospital as it was impossible to bend the knee. The doctor stuck a needle into the swollen knee and drew out about a wine-glass worth of blood, which eased the pain tremendously. Good luck, but I don't believe you should be doing any movements or exercise which cause severe pain. Obviously, you're getting guidance from medical professionals about what you should and shouldn't do.

Knees are a bl**** nuisance aren't they ? I've had a couple of knee injuries (both medial ligament sprains I was told, left knee, like yours Nelly,) which each took about 6 - 8 weeks to get back to the point where I wasn't aware of them and felt I could ski again.

I'm now more nervous, however, and was interested to read the advice regarding braces. Does anyone have experience of using a knee brace while skiing (not just a tubigrip thing, but a proper brace) ?

Dave, I have to commend your fantastic ability to see the bright side of just about anything ! Good skiing, (and remaining upright).

Maybe it means rescue for skiers who have been helicoptered onto the slopes ?

goff wrote:Hi its a great way to enjoy the alpine climate ski hire is simple you start with classic skis (in the tracks) with a simple toe clip comfy shoes. No need to be that fit as you choose your own pace, but the smallest slope will make you look like Bambi on ice after alpine skis.Lermoos is a great place, and in Austria its free with your geust card, in France the cost is about 7 euro a day. Clothes lightweight and breathable. We have been out in the Jura in France covered 40 miles and bumped into more wildlife than people.

Hi Goff; I think we may have ski'd together last year in Soll. You mentioned the Jura, and I remember that was "your patch", so I'm guessing it must be you. Hope all's well with you both; good to read your thoughts on cross-country skiing as I'm also thinking of giving it a go, so am grateful to the original poster for opening up the topic.

Best wishes

I agree with Dorset Boy's idea; makes sense. I guess it could marginally put up TOs' prices though, as the cost of the training and licensing scheme would have to be covered somehow. Still, probably not a big deal.
