Hope it works out and don't pay any attention to any m-in-l jokes that may follow [Tony - behave ]

Cheers that's all very helpful, especially the bit about the massage. I can remember now how sore I felt after the first 2 days. Aching. She's actaully living in Ireland so I might suggest getting onto the dry slope in Wicklow.

Also ringing Chamonix tourist office to see what have they on offer when they open back up this afternoon.

Greatly appreciate the tips and the amusing "M.-'N-L." jokes.

Thanks for your reply Paul!

Even with 1 on 1 instruction? Would it really take a week of instruction before one is independent to go off by ones self?

I snow-board myself so I not cluded up on learning times for skiers. I took 2 half day lessons in cham 2 years ago for two consecutive mornings and it was enough to equip me to get onto reds at the time.

My mother in law who's a fit 56 is really quite charming and she's coming along on a trip to Chamonix this Christmas. Now she's never put on a pair of skis before. She's going for just 6 days. Wednesday to Monday.

Should I get her into private lessons for 2 half days? That's what I'm thinking of. Can anyone recommend any schools thou?

There's all sorts like:

BASS
ESF
Ecole

Just wondering if anyone has been down these routes, typical learning times and experiences.

When is LAAX open?

Does anyone know when Laax is due to open? I thought it was open, but it doesn't appear to be from it's website...

Any ideas? I'm planning a trip on the 5th for 3 days.

Cheers
<<<<<<<Worst november i've ever seen. Put it this way 2 years ago i was riding to the village by now, 3 years ago i already had 12 days under my belt. But now here there is barely anything up there, i was speaking to a cat driver the other day and apparently all the mountain people are freaking out. It is meant to open this sat but i doubt that will happen, if it does it will be terrible. Freezing levels just havnt been low enough, to open you need decent snow down to the bottom of red chair (about 1200m) so they can run red and green chair, but the freezing levels have been so up and down spending alot of time over 1600m which is not good.
I heard over the summer that because of a hurricane or some other reason we would be getting a terrible early season but come january it will be epic beyond all belief. So far that is playing true.

It opened on the 17th last year with a decent amount of snow. Yes it was a while before you could ride to the village.
Yeah we have had snow in the village a few times but the problem is the next day the freezing level is at 2000m and its raining. Looking at the webcams the hill is nowhere near ready to open, there is just no base. It looks like there is 6 inches at the roundhouse.
They announced the 27th as opening day so that they could open on the 22nd and say they opened early for 4 years in a row. They would never have opening day on a thursday. As of right now they are feck, not enough snow to do anything, they will maybe carry snow from other places on the hill so they can open on time but it wont be awesome.
Its wierd, i have been pumped for riding since the first cold day in August but now its close i dont really care because i know as of right now its going to be terrible.>>>>>>>

<<<<<Its looking up guys, there is a good amount due thurs 30cm+ apparently, hopefully the freezing level will stay low enough to stop any precip changing to rain. Its looking bad atm for opening day. I dont think I will go up at least until there is a good base.>>>>>>
