Ski Amade Area - some advice please.
Started by User in Austria, 18 Replies
Thanks for the replies. Thing is, I won't have a car, although there is still the option to hire one if I felt it was really necessary. From what I can gather though Zauchensee is only a 10min bus ride from Altenmarkt, so if that is the case, it should be fine as there appears to be a decent amount of intermediate skiing to be done in that area. On the map, Flachau, doesn't look too far away either, so that will be another one to try out.

KevinC wrote:Chambery also it seems. The flight from Newcastle that was rearranged for 07.30 is still at Newcastle with an update at 11.00.

I'd be so diasppointed if i'd been up at 4am and spent a fortune on a taxi and still not know if i was going anywhere!

Might try again in April.

How disappointing tho............bless your wee cotton socks!!
I love reading these threads about people starting out on their first ski adventure. It takes me back. I still get as excited now as I did on my first trip 17 or 18 years ago! Hope you all find something that suits and have a truly brilliant time

Hi Steve,
I'm no expert on Austria and I'm sure someone will come along who knows more. I'm going to Radstadt/Altenmarkt in a few weeks time and from what I've read it looks to be a very family friendly area which is excellent for beginners, but also has access to a vast area of really good skiing for you and your boys. I read a review on snowheads yesterday which was really helpful.

I much prefer to go to catered chalet. Don't think you'd get it on that budget to include your lift passes though. I've always found that if you weigh up what you pay nowadays for food, then the extra is worth it and you know that all you need is beer money and lunch. As for lessons, it really depends on where you go. I've found some really good ski schools in various places, with English speaking instructors and usually just found them with google searches. Most of the TO's when you go to book have extra packages for ski hire and ski school though. Let us know when you pick a resort and then someone might be able to give more advice. Hope it all works out!

My daughter bought a Dare2b jacket last year out of TKMaxx and she loved it. Reasonably priced, and did the job fine............plus she thought it was fashionable enough to wear, so that's always good news too!!
