Hi guys, i've a problem both my lads aged 14 and 7 are good skiers (the oldest one being very good) i'm not too bad ................but the wife  she wants to ski but is not very confident, she has done a little bit when we were in Austria and can just about link snow plough turns, so i'm after a place that has good skiing for us 3 but good (very) gentle nursery slopes for her, preferably in Austria any advise would be welcome as i'm sure you can understand my dilema !!! :-)

Hi Steve,
I'm no expert on Austria and I'm sure someone will come along who knows more. I'm going to Radstadt/Altenmarkt in a few weeks time and from what I've read it looks to be a very family friendly area which is excellent for beginners, but also has access to a vast area of really good skiing for you and your boys. I read a review on snowheads yesterday which was really helpful.

Does Neiderau come under this banner? Someone might recommend this. Not been there but have a look.

Hi Steve, you could look at Mayrhofen, the beginners slopes are all up top and this means that your whole family will be in the same vicinity as opposed to a lot of resorts where the nursery slopes are down low and it's not as easy to meet up during the day, alternatively you could look at Obergurgl which has a similar set up. Good luck
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

Went to Bad Hofgastein last year and it has pretty much everything you're looking for. Lots of nice easy greens, but plenty reasonably challening red/black runs.

The village is in a row of three resorts too, so there's plenty of options just a short (15min ish) snow bus away.

absolutely yes, as long as they're not mileage hunters.
Actually, it'd be a good call because you'd never be too far from the wife/mum and you'd see a lot of each other.

"alternatively you could look at Obergurgl which has a similar set up."

I went to Obergurgl a few years ago - it's it split into Obergurgl and Hochgurgl but they are linked by a cablecar.

I preferred the Hochgurgl side and I think that would suit you better than the Obergurgl side. It is snow-sure. Nice village, small - but rather expensive.

This year I am off to Passo Tonale which is said to be great for befinners (lots of room on the pistes) and pretty good for internediates; less in the way of black runs. Worth a look? I know you said Austria, but...

i agree that Mayrhofen would be a good choice. Its often thought of as a party town but the rowdy areas can easily be avoided if you are looking for a quieter, family holiday.
