I think Les Deux Alpes is the closest but it's not open until the Mondial I think on 27th Oct. Tignes is open and not such a long way from Grenoble.
You may want to check the LDA web site, I may be wrong about the opening. |

I'll explain this better later when I get time but I want to make the point that snow cannons do not use chemicals, some did in the paste maybe for a brief period but no modern cannon uses anything other than water. A quick google just pulled this out : http://www.peakretreats.co.uk/ski/sustainable-tourism.htm However, that needs the caveat of pointing out it's completely and utterly missed the point about the impact of cannons which is primarily that you need water :D Water scarcity is a big problem in alpine locations. |

where did you get them from in the end? I hope you're happy with them, everyone I know who's got them seems to like them a lot. It's a skier-X cross which is supposed to be a bit of everything but a close cousin to the slalom ski and it should ski pretty short so 170 sounds good. |

It can be both. if your ski lacks any rigidity it will be deflected and flap around. As you say the same effect is achieved by not having your weight back. |

You mean the Equipe 2V? That's a Giant Slalom ski, I've skied the 3V and at the time they were one of the best skis that Salomon ever made. But, I'd think that's not going to be what you want at all. It's a brutal ski, it's not a detuned version of the 3V. The 3V is a slalom ski, ie short, fast turns while the 2V is a GS ski which is very fast high radius turns. That's really Ski Sunday territory :-) On the other hand Salomon have made some utterly awful skis, just horrible on so many levels and your description of skis flapping around sounds like trademark Salomon. This is partly due, in my opinion, the the composite constructions, ie it's not wood. A lot of better skis are laminated wood cores while some of the cheaper ones are composite or foam cores. One of the problems with poor cores is that they don't have such a long life and get progressively more damp over time. Like most main stream manufacturers Salomon make both wood core and foam core skis. |

As you describe your current experience those skis, especially the Salomons, sound a bit a long to me. For piste I only ski a pair of 170 slalom skis although I'm slightly lighter.
Sounds like you want a pair of carving skis, mostly piste skiing etc. There's just so many around, I've been impressed at the deals at Sport Conrad (http://www.sport-conrad.com). They'll do a package deal, skis and binding etc. I'd honestly say why not start to look there, start at the lower prices and dig out some reviews. The truth is there's so many good skis around that would meet your needs. For example, there are last seasons Atomic SX9's which I think was a well considered ski for on €259 although you might want something with a higer DIN range than that particular package. |

That's probably correct, the commission that Interhome take is eye-watering, they take commission for the company itself and then again at the local franchise level. As owners of apartments we decided using Interhome wasn't economic, either you have to charge so much that you're struggling for rentals or you charge a rate that you're not making anything. |

Weather's a bit variable day-to-day and from place-to-place right now. I see elsewhere in France there was some great snow : http://pistehors.com/news/forums/viewthread/41/ http://www.skitour.fr/sorties/croix-de-chamrousse,7642.html#sortie Some other informed comment about the weather : http://pistehors.com/news/forums/viewthread/40/ |
