1 sleep and off to Saas Fee. I'm leaving AllyG and Iceman in charge, so behave yourselves and feel free to wibble. See you next week.

Being a good resort skier isn't about being able to ski a black mogle run at 50 mph. It is about being able to ski any run safely and in control no matter what speed you are travelling. To be aware of those around you and equally to ensure that you don't spook people out. That actually takes some skill.

Well said.

they would also receive a report on what the child had done during their stay. This could then possibly count as off site education and the unauthorised absence that would normallly be recorded will be avoided.

It is a very popular service at present, that is not in question. What I am thinking is if the opportunity was there for the nanny to be a qualified teacher that liaised with the child's school and prevented an absence would you choose that over the usual ski resort nanny service.

Sorry snowb4ndit - I don't mean to rain on your parade, but schools here are incredibly picky about this. They are extremely reluctant to authorise absence of any sort except in extreme circumstances. Believe me, we have tried all sorts. There is also increasing political pressure to punish parents for taking their kids out of school. I don't think it's realistic that your teachers would liaise with a child's school - the schools simply wouldn't do this. I repeat my opinion that most schools will never authorise these absences, no matter how much they are dressed up as education. I speak from experience here. I wish it were different.
I don't think UK schools would ever go for it. They'd view it (rightly or wrongly) as a smokescreen to allow parents to subvert the 'no holidays during term time' rule. We even got a sniffy letter from our school for taking daughter to visit another school - even though that involved her spending time in classes at that school!

Mean granny  And she couldn't be more wrong.

If the little 'un loses interest, then I definitely think skiing because she will make quicker progress in the beginning.
