Good morning and welcome to the '2012 - 2013 WINTER season in Les Arcs'.
The snow has arrived, the lifts, well a few anyway, are now open so let the winter begin!! I will try and send out the daily updates of snow conditions and what's on each morning at breakfast time 'ish around 8am before I hit the slopes myself. Maybe some days when the details are delayed in arriving from the 'security de piste' it will not be possible, but I will do my best. When I return in the evening I will post what it was like out on the hill and anything else worth mentioning. So watch this space and follow how the season progresses this time round. If you want to see the photos you will need to go over to my 'Les Arcs Winter' facebook page, but I will try to post a few here sometimes! http://www.facebook.com/LesArcsWinter Enjoy!! |

Snow, snow snow!! Loads of it! Take a look at the web cams and follow the developments. It looks like we will have another start to the season the same as last year. I just hope everyone stays safe. Bad news about the avalanche in Tignes, (edited) very sad indeed to read that the girl died.
Take a look at the webcam for Arc 1950. George's Wine bar look's like the windows are going to be buried soon. Next week is going to be amazing if this lasts!! |

Just a quick update!!! Loads of snow has arrived all the way down to the valley. About 50 cm in Bourg and it should be possible to ski down to the valley once the fresh snow has settled.

SNOW down to the valley and still snowing. Even if the lifts are still closed, if this keeps up you will be able to use the road up the mountain and then ride back to Bourg just like last season. Time for the fun to begin!! I am very happy! Will try to post some pics later.
Also some other news. The Red Bull Linecatcher @Les Arcs - 12 au 19 janvier 2013 event. This is an extreme Free ride comp. Should be fun! Take a look at the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZSevguqbKk&feature=em-subs_digest |

Getting a discount on your ski pass everyday you ski!
I hope this answers most of your questions. I just bought mine. Even with a season pass, I save money when using this in other resorts. Ski a la Carte ski pass for Tignes/Val d'Isere(all Espace Killy area), Les Arcs/La Plagne/Peisey Vallandry (all Paradiski area), Flaine, Samoëns, Morillon, Les Carroz, Sixt Fer à Cheval (all Grand Massif area) and all resorts in the Serre Chevalier Valley area. You also get a 15% discount when you use the card in Sainte Foy Tarentaise, Valmorel Le Grand Domaine and La Rosière Espace San Bernardo. If you enjoy skiing, but like to choose the days when you go up, this might be the best ski pass for you. It costs 29 Euros to buy the card. You then use it whenever you go skiing in any of the places I have listed above and it charges you for ONLY the time you actually ski so NO wasted money when you take a day off i.e. day/half day passes etc when you go skiing and only in the area where you ski. You are billed monthly to your credit card account with a detailed breakdown of what you have spent and where. It really is that simple. You do not need to get a lift pass in resort, the card they send you works everywhere listed, just walk up to the lift gate and use the pass. You can also get discounted Carre Neige Insurance for the season at 19 Euros which covers you everywhere whilst you are using the card as an extra. This is a really good deal. Normally the Carre Neige ski insurance would cost about 2.50 euros a day. You get the best value from the card if you use it for at least 9 days because as well as the daily discount you also get the ninth day free. Then the discount continues to increase the more you use it. Not sure how much you save with kids. Guess you will have to read the small print for yourself. Some friends used it for two weeks when based in Les Arcs and saved about 75 Euros on just the card if they compared it with the price of buying a two week ski pass in resort and about another 25 Euros on the insurance. This included a few days in Val/Tignes and the 3 Valleys. Hope this is of help to some people. 'If you want an extra discount when buying the card, send me a PM for further details. Here is the link you need: http://www.skialacarte.fr/en/ski-card.php |

Time for some more info updates as the time for bookings is now upon us.
As I always get asked these questions. Getting the train to Bourg: For anyone coming out by train to Bourg St Maurice, you can get off the train and use the free shuttle bus to get round to the Funicular bottom station when you arrive in the morning or when leaving at the end of your holiday. You can buy your weeks ski pass at the ticket office by the Funi if you have not done so already online. That way you will not have to pay extra to go up on the Funi for the first day. There are free shuttle buses from the top of the Funi to all Les Arcs stations. Ski and Snowboard Hire when you get off the train: If you need to hirer skis or snowboards, you can do this right at the bottom of the Funi at the Polaire Star Ski shop near the ticket office. This season they will be having mainly Kastle, Stockli, Volkl and Salomon skis of various lengths and widths to suit all tastes! They will also be having new snowboards from Salomon and Head plus all the necessary accessories. More details to follow. http://www.polairestar.com/ I also heard this season Polaire Star will be selling beautiful handmade Mexican silver jewellery, nickel free from Angelica Fuentes – famous Rally co-driver – winner of the Carrera Panamerica! These would make Ideal gifts or just a treat for the ladies.Perfect for Xmas, New Year, Valentine's Day or Birthday gifts – in fact right throughout the whole season! Other useful tips: If you need to leave luggage for the day, this can also be done at the ski shop plus if you are staying in Bourg for a small fee, you can leave your skis/snowboards at the shop overnight to save having to carry them to and from home each day. REMEMBER: if you are coming out for the season, you must buy your ski pass before the 30 November to get the discount. I will update these details when I hear more such as the if the snack bar at the bottom will be around again this season. Hope these details helped with your planning. |
