yeah true enough - they're approx 10 years old and the XS on the insurance is £50 so probably not worth bothering I guess. Bit annoying though really. What's SPAM??? |

I managed to snap the rear of my recently purchased (but ancient) 2nd-hand Atomic Beta 9 Carvers recently.
Firstly I have no real idea when or how I did it, noone seemed to believe it was possible. They're snapped about 2" behind the rear of the binding. From the top layer almost down to the base so that the sides & base have been all that were holding them together. Well.. gotta get a repair quote ("bin them") so I can attempt to claim something off my ski insurance, but was wondering if this is common? Anyone else ever snapped a ski? Can they be repaired? I'm about 6foot tall and weigh a not inconsiderable 15stone (97KG?) Any tips on buying new ones? Any skies out there designed specifically for fatties? I was doing red / black on-piste (only) skiing. No jumps or anything special. Cheers folks! |

really?? you might have been unlucky I guess - or I'm in for a treat next time I go there :) The food everwhere else did look pretty tempting but the exchange rate killed off most of the spare cash we would have used & we had 1/2 board so wasnt worth trying really. |

...what was up with "el Corbs" black run on the el Tarter side? Pure evil: about 89 degrees from the horizontal! (well ok exagerating a bit there :) but evil anyway!

Very impressed with this hotel. It was a little bit off the beaten track but free bus to the el Tarter gondola.
Food was great, buffet though so never very hot. Excellent staff, very helpfull & friendly. Great facilities: free ski bus (5 mins to el Tarter), sauna, pool, jacuzzi, steam room, weights room, TV room, bar etc Money: The bad exchange-rate killed the various trips unfortunately, and the beer was pretty bad at €3.50 a pint (now costing £3.28, whereas a few months back it woudl have been about £1.90). Ski pass: €210 for 6 days (from the hotel) Ski hire: €74 for 6 days for bronze-rated skis (more for silver & gold) including boot hire & poles. If you've got your own boots, take them folks cos its only €54 for the week to hire the skis. Resort: El Tarter is linked to all of the other slopes in the Grand Valira area by lifts & runs & as long as you can get down a blue slope alive you can go right across the range of mountains there. Excellent snow conditions, we had 6 inches of fresh powder most of the time. The piste descriptions are pretty vague though, not sure what they judge to be the difference with Blue, Red and Black but some Blues were green, some red, some reds were rediculously steep & narrow whereas some blacks were pretty easy really. Well impressed overall & will definately go back there next year (unless a better offer comes along). Cheers |

I've seen those Snow sock things (if its the same), its like a material cover for the wheel which grips the snow but has none of the disadvantages of the chains (driving on normal roads etc etc).
Allegedly they're good but to be honest I've never seen them used in anger or reviewed properly. 80 Bucks sounds a lot, but then I guess its for all 4 wheels? |
