I was looking for advice on which resorts in Austria or Switzerland would suit our needs. We are Americans coming for the culture and change of pace. Mostly blue and red runs and modern express lifts. Some nightlife but mostly about the skiing and visiting Europe.

Although edge and base guides are still pretty much the same as before, I can recommend two products for nightly touchups on the mountain. For deburring and sharpening the SWIX Carving Kit or their Disc Tuner work great. For the easiest best waxing go to www.alpineskituning.com and look at the waxWHIZard Happy turns Al

Absolutely take a lesson or two. Also check into video lessons on DVD or tape. Just make sure they are for the new equipment and techniques and bring them on trips. :

I was unable to view the video, blocked out at work. I have been skiing backwards and spinning turns for years, even on old straight skis. The secret for me lies in flat skis and one of the basics of skiing. Always keep your weight comitted downhill. As you proceed through the rotation re-adjust your center so you are still comitting your weight downhill throughout the turn. Only practice on well groomed slopes. Al
