Bedrock Barney,
I'm sorry to hear you're still ticketless  Are you looking at 16th to 23rd February? I had a look on the Eurostar website just now and they still have 4 tickets for a total of £1356-00 for standard non-flexible day train. Or were you looking for the flexible tickets? I always get the cheap non-flexible ones because I can't see myself changing my mind about going unless one of us was really ill or something in which case I could claim on our travel insurance. They always seem to bump the price up for Feb half-term, whether you're going by train or flying. I should think the indirect tickets (changing trains and stations in Paris) will be cheaper but I don't know what the price will be for them because you won't be able to buy those for quite a while yet. Best of luck with finding a cheaper way of getting out there. Presumably you've thought of driving? I've bought my Eurostar ticket for the J2Ski group holiday (with the Ski Club of GB discount), and I managed to print it out as well - they charge an extra £8 if you want them to post you a traditional paper ticket! |

I hope you have a good time, Andy, even though I suppose this means you won't be ski-ing with us in Tignes on the 13th Jan. |

Don't worry everyone, I fall over loads, so you're bound to capture a good one on camera for Facebook and J2Ski later
My biggest problem is that if I fall over on a flat piece, like queuing for a lift or outside a cafe, I can't get back up because I've got too old and stiff. I can manage fine if it happens on a black slope because the gradient makes it easy. I am thinking of going to yoga classes or something, to loosen me up again. It's nearly time to start thinking about getting fit to ski again for this holiday. |

Fortunately I've never had to make a claim on my ski insurance, but this year our insurers paid out about £13,000 on something connected with our house, and hardly argued about it at all. In fact, I was quite surprised they paid up as it was a distinctly 'grey' area on our policy.
So, not all insurers are bad all the time. However, I think insurers who behave badly should be made to pay up if at all possible, so that they don't get in the habit of mistreating and basically robbing their poor clients/customers. |

Hey, I didn't know this was supposed to be a race! It's just as well that I will have a head start on you all then
Catp and I are going for Gold - I bet we're first on the slopes at Les Brevieres :D |

I have bought my single Eurostar ticket out to Bourg now, from St Pancras for the Saturday day train on January 12th. The full price on the internet was £118 but I got it for £96 with my Ski Club of GB discount.
I will book a cheap hotel in Bourg for Saturday night and get the bus to Les Brevieres early on Sunday morning so that I can ski all Sunday. I've already bought my EasyJet flight back to Gatwick from Geneva for the following Sunday evening (20th) departing at 9-30 p.m. and costing just under £50. So, the total cost of my train out and flight back is just under £150, which isn't too bad, but I will have to add in about £50 for the hotel and I've still got to buy my bus ticket from Bourg to Les Brevieres on the 13th, and find a way of getting from Les Brevieres to Geneva on the evening of the 20th. I am still waiting for the bus time-tables and prices to become available. I've never managed to ski 8 days before, and I should think it will be well worth the extra trouble/expense. If anyone is interested, I had a quick look just now on the Eurostar website, and half-term direct Eurostar tickets are still available (16th - 23rd February) for £339. Return tickets for 12th - 19th January are only £209. |

Daved - £29 return is incredibly cheap!
We did something similar once with the ferry over to Ireland. We bought cheap day return pedestrian tickets over there and then stayed on and came back with family in the car a week later. We weren't supposed to do it but no-one seemed to have found out and we never got told off. And it was much cheaper than buying single tickets. Perhaps you should phone them up and make an anonymous enquiry about it, but I don't really see how they could enforce your return after a week or whatever they specify. I mean, your car might break down and have to spend time in the garage getting fixed, or somebody might be too ill to travel back etc. |

Verbier_ski_bum, I know you're right and I'm not supposed to but I always wear cotton T-shirts under my thermal tops and ski jacket, and cotton leggings under my ski trousers, because wool or synthetics next to my skin makes me all itchy. I have tried wearing the correct gear but I couldn't stand it for more than about 2 minutes - so I yanked it off and went back to my cottons!
I suppose I may well get colder/hotter/sweatier than other people wearing the correct gear, but so far I have survived (and enjoyed) my ski holidays :D |
