I have thought about getting a cheap holiday there myself, but I reckon all that time wasted each day travelling up and down would drive me completely mad.

And it's at 600m.

Ditto this.

I have looked and then thought stuff that. Its cheap for a reason.
Tony. No cable blinkers mate. I work for the money not loyalty. I am talking from solid experience of all products and having worked on most of them.
Sky's product is nice but very limited.
You are basing your cable opinion tho on old products. It's a shame it's not in your area, I think you would be pleasantly suprised.
Also if someone doesn't cable up rural areas soon you have a danger of being left behind as more and more domestic products are Internet connected. And for that you need bandwidth.
We have 3 computers, iPad, 3 phones, two tvs, a web server, a ps3, a wii and Nintendo ds that all hook up to the net and many of them are on permenently.
Virgins rock solid 100mb does nicely.

I can live without tv, but not a decent Internet connection.
My name is jon and I'm an addict.

Iceman wrote:The big dowfall for me, as you point out is that you have to have special equipment that you have no control over - Cables

I used to love Virgin at my old property and would still have it should I have the choice. Unfortunately I dont, thats where Sky will always win.

When a new housing estate is built why dont Virgin simply lay cables too? Its not as if they have to dig up roads or annoy existing residents?

I live in a new build and have to have sky

The problem is £.

The cable industry in the UK nearly folded because of the MASSIVE debt (billions) that was created by digging up roads and laying the infrastructure. Which, again, was why the like of NTL could never invest in developing competing products to Sky.
Sky own nothing. Sky has a great business model, it rents the satellites, the customers own the equipment. It simply broadcasts. ANd thats why it makes a fortune.

We have started to put feeds into new builds in certain areas but again there is always a dispute over costs. Should we pay or the builder?

Thanks for taking the time to review the area. I am sure theres plenty more for you to say, but it certainly gives a decent overview of the place, and more importantly I'm pleased you got to get another week on your skis this season!
