Me and a buddy are going where the snow falls! Taking the fatboys to Whistler. Well thats the plan.

Go somewhere guaranteed snow, ie not slovakia. Somewhere cheap. Somewhere close. Somewhere with good snow. Snow is essential if it's sh*t and you don't like your first skiing holiday then you will never continue. Try somewhere like Neiderau-1 hour from Innsbruck!!

Dave Mac-low temp doesn't feel cold. -39 in Banff feels like -3 here in Scotland, it is an extremely dry cold and you don't really feel it. Good gloves are essential otherwise a thermal/midlayer/jacket is fine if not too much in some cases.

For the most part Ben is right.. but i'd get equipment out there-they have more of an idea what is good for the conditions whereas most shops here just try and sell you what they have left.
