Ade73 wrote:Hi daved where do we find the discounted price? Always awkward with not even pigeon hole French to use on a French website. Ha

Ade has joined our Facebook holiday group now, so doubtless between us all we will sort out these sorts of queries.

Just before I started organizing this holiday I went to a talk about how to organize local voluntary events, like regattas and carnivals etc., and they said Facebook groups are very good for this and showed us how to make one.

So I made one for this holiday (with some help from my daughter because I never used FB much before that!). It is only for people who are actually booked onto the holiday and it has turned out to be very useful because it means I don't have to individually pm everyone with information and we can discuss things together and get to know each other before we go on the holiday.

And it means we can keep this thread clear for those who are considering coming with us, or just want to read whatever we've posted about the chalet or the Tignes/Val d'Isere ski area.
I have some more pricing information on ski hire in Les Brevieres.

We have discovered that if you go into the Intersport website via this route, the 'noir' skis and boots are 11 euros cheaper, as they only cost 102 euros instead of 113 euros. At today's Visa currency conversion rate of 1.25 euros to the pound, 102 euros is the equivalent of £82:

There are 2 Intersport shops in Les Brevieres.

You can also hire skis and boots, or a snowboard, in the chalet from a company called Tignes Spirit Rentals. And they will meet up with you on the first day, at lunchtime, at a restaurant above Tignes Lavachet to check that there are no problems with their gear. The chalet ski hosts will take the groups to this meeting point.

Their hire prices are as follows:
Silver = £75
Gold = £85
Platinum = £95

They say that these prices are according to the quality of the skis and boots, not the ability level of the skier. So, even a beginner could hire platinum quality - but it would probably be a waste of money! Usually, beginners hire silver, intermediates gold, and advanced/expert platinum.

BB,
What does your daughter want to study at uni? Or doesn't she know?

I have been in the same position as you, twice, but both my daughters (eventually) got to uni.

A year off is sometimes a good idea, before uni, because it's awfully hard for the poor kids to know what they want to do - a lot of their choices seem to be more about being taught by a teacher they like rather than about eventual jobs and careers.

Hi Randyrat,
The best deal I could find for our group holiday was with thecoolbus.co.uk which was 280 euros one way for an 8 seater mini-bus from Geneva to Tignes. But as it happens we're all getting there in different ways and I don't think we're going to use this company (which was recommended to me by the owner of the chalet we're going to). I don't think you'd find anything much cheaper than that.

Perhaps if you say which dates and times you're travelling you could advertise the 3 spare places in the mini-bus on here and reduce your transfer costs.

What's wrong with using the bus? The Aeroski bus (AKA Altibus) is 109 euros return per person.

Best of luck with getting the transfers sorted :D

Blondy - £600 for everything sounds very cheap to me!

That was self-catering surely? It usually costs us more like £1000 each, by the time we've paid for everything (mind you that does include group lessons all week).
Is Ski Bulgaria really this bad?

Icy - farmers would have have far more sense than to walk (and fall over) into the contents of a toilet outfall :lol:

Admittedly I have got stuck myself once, in a slurry pit, but at least it was only cow slurry, not human excrement, and it was a very, very, long time ago :lol:
