Ok so maybe i should pay an extra few pence and get a proper one.

incidently... seriously do some downhill bikers not wear helmets, i've never seen one not wear a helmet??? some people are nuts

I meant downhill bikers not using cycle helmets and using full face ones, not them not having one at all, that would be mad ) or even madder than doing it in the first place :)
dulcamara wrote:you must be right that they'd be designed for different impacts, though I thought a downhill bike helmet would be designed to land on harder stuff, lots of rocks and trees around on those things.

a friend suggested temperatures might affect the gubbins inside? anyone got a definitive answer on that?

temperatures? no, that's just silly )

Otherwise, you'd need to read the spec', one of the main problems with cycles helmets is they won't take repeated or intruded impacts which is why you need to be insane to wear one for skiing. However, that's exactly why (knowledgeable) downhill mountain bikers don't wear them either.

There seem to be two versions of the remedy, one mtb and one skiing, how different they are is hard to say, the two are only on sale in the US though where bizarrely there's an absence of proper standards so you could sell a bit of cardboard as a helmet which you can't in Europe. The MTB one is around in the UK.

You might have to ask Giro although I doubt you'd get a straight answer but it's worth a try.

Where would you stop at if you had 10 days and no inhibitions from Munich to oh uh Tirol?

Obergurgl if it was open. Pitztal or the Stubai otherwise.

Usual question, what's the ski area like and just how wonderful is the town?

the town's nothing special from what I recall, a lot of the hotels are spread out along the valley so they're not always central.

There's a handful of ski areas, the main one at the glacier with some great itineraries and one excellent one called something like the Wildgrub down to the valley station. Schlick is also pretty good and a worth a day or two. There's a ski area in Neustift which is small, maybe a half day worth and another I can't recall the name of right away.

It's really close to Innsbruck as well, easy transfer up. We used to go a lot at weekends particularly early season as it's snow sure and a short drive from where we lived at the time.

It's a good area, you should go )

Had Atomic and Elans in the past that were a lot easier to ski on...and cheaper!....maybe its time for some serious lessons!.
Ill try my luck in the forums trying to sell them there.

good idea, for most of us, at pretty much any level, money spent on lessons or coaching is always better for your technique than money on skis.

popular ski, I shouldn't think you'll struggle to sell them,
