I had a look at the webcams this morning on here:

http://www.tignes.net/en/skiing-in-tignes/webcams-290.html

It doesn't look like they've had any more snow, and the forecast seems to be sun for the next few days. Never mind - there's plenty of time before the 13th January :D

I took a still off the Grande Motte webcam this morning, showing Le Panoramic restaurant, and you can see what an amazing construction it is, perched on top of the mountain:

I finally found the website for the Panoramic restaurant, and I've pasted in part of the restaurant description. It seem they have a snack bar, self-service restaurant, and a gourmet restaurant with grilled lobster etc.

LE PANORAMIC

Welcome to the Panoramic at 3032 metres altitude on the Grande Motte glacier in Tignes. It was in this unique high-mountain playground that, to the delight of food lovers, Jean-Michel Bouvier set up his restaurant in the autumn of 2011. Each day, the chef concocts a lunch special to be savoured whilst soaking up the breathtaking 360° panoramic view. Accessible on skis or on foot (via the
funicular), it is the legendary spot in the Tignes – Val d'Isère Espace Killy ski area. Ski suit required!

With 3 different timings and 3 different options, there is something for everyone: the snack-bar for a quick snack on the go when you come out of the funicular, the self-service restaurant for a simple lunch made from local produce or the gourmet restaurant for gastronomic enthusiasts. Wearing their traditional Savoyard berets, members of staff give you a warm welcome in each of the different areas of the restaurant. You will leave feeling on top form, ready to race down the pistes.

Hi Dobby :D

I've added you to the list - 111 days assuming your transfer works out OK.
Thanks Andy :D

Do you mean the cafe you can see on the left in this photo, or is it a different one?

This is another October 2009 photo so my apologies for the lack of snow in it. You walk past the archway to get to the bottom of the funicular in Val Claret, which takes you up to the Grande Motte glacier.

Thanks very much BB - most informative :D

At least I know now which way the Madeleine piste is going! And what a lovely photo

I think the Marmottons is one of the new 'naturide' pistes - ungroomed but secured. I think they're a very good idea, because you get to feel you're ski-ing off-piste but you are reasonable safe from avalanche.

Anyway - I will think about pistes another time, we are currently thinking about restaurants.

I haven't been able to find a menu or some prices for this mountain restaurant, but Trip Advisor ranks it 9th out of 70 restaurants in Val d'Isere. The comments say that it gets very busy around 1 p.m. and to try and get there either earlier or later.
Thanks Andy :D

Edit
Sorry, my message crossed with yours, BB. Thanks for your help

I've just noticed that Bedrock Barney actually SAID it was the Bar de L'Ouillette (the one in my link) and somehow I just didn't notice

That link says it IS on the top of the Solaise at the foot of the Lac chairlift. And looking on the piste map I can see that if you go directly up from where it says Val d'Isere the cafe is slightly to the right, under where it says 'Ski Tranquille'.

I think I was ski-ing up there and it's somewhere near the flat rope tow along the top, but I'm not sure exactly how you get there (it all looks pretty flat and I'm not sure what is up and what is down - if you see what I mean!). Anyway, it looks like it's on the green Madeleine piste.

If you click on the piste map it gets bigger.

Sorry everyone, I just want to re-post this to make sure Bedrock Barney sees it, because I want to know where that second cafe is - it looks really lovely.

And is this one your second restaurant, Le Bar de L'Ouillette?

This is our regular stop in Val d'Isere as mentioned earlier in the thread. Great salads and quiche. Loads of people were also tucking into the barbeque food. Got very busy though so we tried to be in the queue by noon to avoid the crowds.

I'll do more reconnaissance when we are in Espace Killy 10 days before you lot. No charge!
