List of J2Skiers off ski-ing/boarding in 2012/2013 updated Monday 22nd October
Colinlambert_1, I've added you to the list. Excel seems to think you are going in 62 days, not 61 days, assuming I entered the date correctly. I don't fancy making another list for those bringing children during term time. I am still traumatised from watching the child catchers in action in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, when I was very young, and it would be terrible if they turned up in a ski resort   Is there anyone else who wants to go on my list? Verbier_ski_bum going to Verbier in 40 days on the 01/12/2012 Bandit going to Grimentz in 49 days on the 10/12/2012 Geno68 going to Davos in 60 days on the 21/12/2012 Colinlambert_1 going to St Gervais in 61 days on the 22/12/2012 Joe Colin going to Morzine in 61 days on the 22/12/2012 Snapzzz going to Les Arcs in 68 days on the 29/12/2012 Bedrock Barney going to Val d'Isere in 69 days on the 30/12/2012 Snowy0000 going to Morzine in 69 days on the 30/12/2012 AlistairS going to Lech and Zurs in 76 days on the 06/01/2013 Smartski going to La Plagne in 76 days on the 06/01/2013 ATOO going to La Tania in 82 days on the 12/01/2013 Caltonhat going to Les Arcs in 82 days on the 12/01/2013 Ian W going to Manigod in 82 days on the 12/01/2013 Catp going to Tignes in 82 days on the 12/01/2013 AllyG going to Tignes in 82 days on the 12/01/2013 Tiger7 going to Tignes in 83 days on the 13/01/2013 Daved going to Tignes in 83 days on the 13/01/2013 Ade73 going to Tignes in 83 days on the 13/01/2013 Joe Colin going to Tignes in 83 days on the 13/01/2013 Felthorpe going to Tignes in 83 days on the 13/01/2013 Far Queue going to Tignes in 83 days on the 13/01/2013 Brooksy going to Tignes in 83 days on the 13/01/2013 Lindylou going to St Foy in 88 days on the 18/01/2013 Andyhull going to Meribel in 88 days on the 18/01/2013 Tony_H going to Champoluc in 90 days on the 20/01/2013 AlistairS going to Sauze D'Oulx in 103 days on the 02/02/2013 Scarletgirl going to Mayrhofen in 103 days on the 02/02/2013 NelliePs going to La Plagne in 109 days on the 08/02/2013 Caltonhat going to Arabba in 110 days on the 09/02/2013 Dobby going to Risoul in 111 days on the 10/02/2013 Lizzie-B going to Morillon in 117 days on the 16/02/2013 Michelle63 going to Sauze D'Oulx in 118 days on the 17/02/2013 Far Queue going to Lech in 124 days on the 23/02/2013 Brooksy going to Obergurgl in 138 days on the 09/03/2013 |

Bedrock Barney,
Do you think your first one could be this one, which is the Alpage/Soli at the top of the Chaudannes - the one I said was closest to Les Brevieres? I'm just going by the colour of the stonework. I skied past it several times but I am hopeless at knowing where I am when I'm in the mountains

Andy - don't worry, I have thought of that!
I am adding people to the Excel sheet, as they post their holiday details, and I think Excel can hold thousands of 'rows'. But when I have too many people on my list on here I will start to just post up the people who are going in, say, December and January, so that I don't take up a whole page. Last year, if you remember, I just listed people who were going off in one week, and in 2 weeks. And if I get, like, 50,000 J2Skiers all trying to post up their holidays I will pass it on to Admin. I am sure he will be very pleased to take over from me  |

I've added Verbier_ski_bum and I thought I'd better post up a new list now we're on a new page.
According to this list, Verbier_ski_bum will be the first on the snow, in Verbier, and Brooksy the last, in Obergurgl. Is there anyone else going ski-ing/boarding? Thanks Andy - I am very glad to know that they have now moved the dynamite from under the restaurant
Here is another of my daughter's photos of the cafe by the Grande Motte glacier in Tignes. I was rather reluctant to post it up because I am in it and it's not a very flattering photo of me - squinting into the sun with my hair all on end. We were sitting there having elevenses, and it is again taken in October 2009 (I have a few more grey hairs now!). We were very lucky with the weather - it was really hot and sunny, which did however make the snow pretty icy. You can see that you walk straight out of the funicular and onto the restaurant terrace. You have to walk along here to get to the next set of lifts.
And if anyone else wants to come with us and check out exactly how grey my hair has become now, they are very welcome to join us. There are still a few rooms left in the chalet. Please post up on here or send me a pm. |

Oh, and looking at it the other way around, you can't get holiday cancellation insurance with Carre Neige unless you live in France. And it doesn't cover things like lost baggage or stolen skis.
But it does cover rescue, medical costs (apart from those covered by the EHIC), and repatriation to most countries in Europe. I asked my own insurers, PJ Hayman, if I could claim from the Carre Neige rather than them if I needed to be rescued because my policy with PJ Hayman has an excess of £250 for search and rescue for snowsports. And they said that would be fine as long as I didn't try to claim from both of them! Also, some people's insurers may not cover them for ski-ing off-piste, which the Carre Neige does. This is what Tignesnet.com say: http://www.tignesnet.com/ski-insurance/carr%C3%A9-/-carte-neige-insurance.html So what are the advantages? A Carré/Carte Neige is instantly recognised by the French rescue and medical services and so any rescue costs incurred are automatically covered (i.e. you do not need to pay up front and claim back later) If you loose your lift pass during your stay, you can immediately take your Carré/Carte Neige to the lift pass office who will replace your pass immediately for you, no questions asked Refunds for lift closures and lost lessons due to an accident are also possible Carte Neige and Carré Neige may give limited cover for some of the transportation costs back home http://www.carreneige.com/ |

I think the main difference between them is that if I need to be rescued the rescue services will recognize the Carre Neige insurance and not ask to be paid 'up front' before they take me in the ambulance etc. There have been stories where people have had to pay either in cash or with their credit cards first. Apparently the reason for this is that local rescue services have been 'stung' by holidaymakers who weren't insured and they never got paid. Naturally they weren't very happy about this, as it can be very expensive to rescue people. It is a private service, not a government one. Here are some prices I got from this website: http://www.tignes.net/data/template_entetecontenu/14115-secours.pdf The French use a comma instead of a full stop as a decimal point when writing numbers. |
