Andy,
It's quite simple - we do the pub/restaurant crawl, but we don't actually drink any alcohol ourselves

Perhaps it would have been clearer if I'd expressed it like this:

The first Sunday there will be a reconaissance expedition on skis to gather information concerning the quality and price of food and beverages offered by the various mountain restaurants of Tignes and Val d'Isere. There will also be an attempt to gauge the 'ambience' of said restaurants and ascertain the magnificance, or otherwise, of their mountain views. This information will be required by the main body of the troops when they reach the ski slopes on Monday

Got a headcam Ally - I'll catch your Sunday falls.

Well, isn't it a good thing you decided to come with us Andy

But remember the first Sunday is the pub/restaurant crawl around Tignes and Val d'Isere via the ski slopes

Happy Birthday for yesterday Icy :D

Did you get any decent presents?

Thanks Verbier_ski_bum :D

I think there may well be a trip video, if Brooksy has his way

He's already planning which way he's going to catch my most spectacular fall on film, and he's seriously worried that it might happen on the first Sunday before he's there to film it for posterity/J2Ski

Yesterday got a room
Today booked a train!!

Be interesting to see how this goes. Not much longer door to door than flying (excluding any delays with the bucket shop flight operators) and with the monstrous advantage of a full 8 days skiing.
So on a £££££ per ski day or mile or kilometre or pratfall I reckon I am the winner.

In Andy's case the train is actually cheaper than the plane, once you factor in £60 for the chalet transfers from Geneva, assuming the return flights would have cost £100. The return train tickets cost him £130.

He's going on the Eurostar from St Pancras to Paris, and then changing to the French sleeper train to travel to Bourg-St-Maurice, arriving just before 8 a.m. on Sunday morning.

He and I will then both catch the Altibus coach at 8-15 a.m. in Bourg and arrive in Les Brevieres at 8-55 just in time for a late breakfast in the Bonjour chalet. And then we will get changed, dump our luggage, and go off ski-ing!

Catp may well join me in the hotel in Bourg on Saturday night and join us ski-ing on the first Sunday.

Andy will only have to pay 15 euros for the return bus tickets from Bourg to Les Brevieres. He's going back on the sleeper/Eurostar on the evening of the second Sunday - hence 8 days ski-ing, the same as me :D

OK Andy - since you asked so nicely this time

And if anyone else wants to go on this list would you please say so and tell me the date and resort, and Excel will work out how many days/sleeps you have before you go.

Thanks everyone, for those kind words :D

I'm glad the planning for this holiday is working out so well, but I'm sorry that not all those who wanted to come could manage it, because of the date.

Let's hope that all those who were disappointed this year will be able to make the 2014 holiday :D

Organizing this holiday has forced me to improve my computer skills - not just with Excel, but other things as well. Like, now I can post up 'stills' from moving webcams - like the one of Tignes Le Lac this morning. It's surprising how much I have learned from the other members of the group, particularly Far Queue, who has given me a great deal of help.

And on that note, here is a picture of Les Brevieres, that I 'prepared earlier', taken from the webcam this morning.

You can see the dam in the centre of the valley. And to the right you can see a route down through the trees which is the red run Pavot. The blue piste Myrtilles comes in from the left close to the bottom of this. And the black Sache run joins the red run before the section you can see.

There are 3 lifts at the bottom of these runs - the short beginners drag lift Pitots, the Brevieres chair lift up to Les Boisses at 1850, and the Sache gondola which takes you up above Les Boisses and connects with lifts to Le Lac and the Aiguille Percee (eye of the needle) at 2748m.

There are only 3 rooms left in the chalet now, out of a total of 15. So, if anyone else is interested in joining us in Tignes Les Brevieres they'd better say so before the chalet is fully booked. The 3 rooms left are all quad rooms but Bonjour will accept them being occupied by only 2 people, for the basic price of £399 per person. If 4 adults share a quad room the price is £350 per person.

Flights, transfers, lift passes, and ski hire are extras on top of the basic price for the catered chalet. The total cost works out at around £850 per person depending on how much you have to pay for your flights/train fare/self-drive etc.
