Thus a long walk /push /pole back to the lifts after lunch?

Dunno for sure, Santons is a no no for me

You're quite right Andy - but you needn't have told the others

I was hoping we'd all work off the lunch calories, getting back to the lifts
Hang on a minute FQ and everyone else, wait for me to buy my bendy pencils first, before you give out your lunch orders

Felthorpe - I have a copy of the piste map from when I was in Tignes before, and I will circle all 9 restaurants and surely I will be able to find at least one of them for some lunch

I suppose it will depend on the weather, and what Andy and Catp say, but I fancy having lunch on the first Sunday in les Clochetons, in Val d'Isere, on the blue Santons piste. After I've negotiated that half-pipe I reckon I will deserve a hot chocolate and some lunch, and the prices are reasonable.

Brooksy, I don't think Andy is volunteering to take over all the camera work - just the first Sunday before you get there :D

I think your guiding may be more advanced than my own Ally - I've failed to get back before it goes dark in the past

I've even failed to get back to my own apartment a long time ago in Pas with the lads but that's another story

Thanks Andy, that's very kind of you to say so :D

About the only thing I am good at is reading the small print on the piste maps which tell you what time each lift shuts, and making sure I don't get stuck in the wrong valley/country

(Something has gone a bit wrong with this post - never mind!)

Smartski and Andy,
I totally agree with what you both said, and that's why I added this bit (about why I'm not a ski host).

And I don't think any court in any country would be able to declare that I was acting as a ski guide, because I never know where I am when I'm ski-ing up in the mountains, and I don't pretend to

So far I've always managed to get back to my chalet/hotel/apartment before the lifts shut and it gets dark, but that's about the limit of my abilities!

Here's the updated list of how many sleeps/days we've all got left before we get on the snow

And if anyone else wants to go on the list please just say so with details of where and when you're going, and the Excel sheet will work out how many days it is.

There are currently 38 J2Skiers on this list, and one who isn't on the list but is still going ski-ing

Any "hosting" I've ever had has always been at pains to say that they don't teach and they don't go down anything stronger than reds (for insurance apparently)

Andy, I think some ski hosts will take you down black runs. I know the Ski Club of GB will even take you off piste, and this is what Leski.com say:

Val d'Isère
As well as the daunting Olympic black
run La Face above Val d'Isère, our hosts will take you from the famous Aiguille Percée on the 1200m descent of La Sache over in Tignes.

Let's hope that ski hosting will be allowed to continue :D

Thanks Andyoneill,
Yes, I did know about this. In fact, on the details for our chalet the owners specifically say that the ski hosting may be withdrawn:

We reserve the right to withdraw activities such as ski hosting or tobogganing nights if required to do so by the authorities.

Personally, I think the ski hosting should be allowed to continue, because I reckon the sort of people that use ski hosts wouldn't employ ski guides instead if the service was withdrawn - they'd simply struggle on alone and be in far greater danger than they would with the ski hosts.
Andy,
We will have to make enquiries with the others in the group as to which particular beverages etc. they are interested in.
And then we will make notes.

I shall be purchasing and issuing these special bendy pencils to ensure we don't injure ourselves whilst carrying sharp items around on the ski slopes :D

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Flexible-Bendy-Rubber-Colorful-Pencils/dp/B0080DRA5C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1349983978&sr=8-2

And we will have to plan our route around the restaurants very carefully so that we don't end up paying for a very expensive taxi from Val to Tignes (as you pointed out yourself several pages back).

Here is the list of the 9 mountain restaurants that I reckon warrant further 'investigation'.

1. Le Palet - top of the Tichot chair above Val Claret.

2. Le Panoramic - top of the funicular from Val Claret to the Grande Motte glacier.

3. Le Bar de L'Ouillette - at the bottom of the Madeleine piste, on the Solaise above Val d'Isere.

4. The Alpage/Soli - at the top of the Chaudannes lift above Le Lac, and the closest mountain restaurant to les Brevieres.

5. Les Clochetons - at the bottom of the Santons piste, just before you get into the Val d'Isere village.

6. Le Signal - at the top of the Fornet cable car in Val d'Isere.

7. Le Triffolet - above La Daille, by the OK and Criterium pistes etc.

8. The Edelweiss - on the blue Manguard piste above Le Fornet.

9. La Folie Douce/La Fruitiere - at the top of the cable car up from La Daille.
